Weight Loss Through Hypnosis

A unique method to lose weight naturally is through an age-old process called the process of hypnosis. Find out more and even get a free hypnosis program below.

Everyone who is overweight would want to lose weight and what’s better than shedding off those pounds naturally without any medication, surgery, hard work or side effects.

Being overweight can cause serious health implications to an individual.

From diabetes, cancer, hypertension, heart diseases to arthritis, digestion problems, and insomnia, there is no end to the way in which obesity can affect your health.

There are many procedures available for weight loss, from exercises to following a proper diet chart, medication, surgery, herbal products, and pills.

Hypnosis too falls among one of the best known natural weight loss procedures.

If you look at hypnosis for weight loss then the reasons behind the success of this method become clear.

Or if you suffer from weight problems – whether you yo-yo diet or can’t seem to find the motivation to get on a diet that suits you.

Then, you probably already know that your problem isn’t really your weight at the end of the day. The problem is more likely to rest with you.

The majority of cases, people cannot lose weight effectively because of some psychological issue that prevents them from achieving their goal.

Many people find it hard to lose weight simply because they view food in the wrong way.

They may, for example, view sweet and fatty foods as desirable because they were rewarded with these kinds of foods when they were young and behaved well.

Or, they may associate the short rush you get with certain foods with feeling good so they reach for candy when they feel low or stressed.

You may, for example, naturally crave unhealthy foods rather than healthy ones. Eating unhealthy foods here may make you happier and more comfortable.

Or, you may eat the wrong foods or the wrong amount of food whenever you are stressed, unhappy or uncomfortable. In either case, hypnosis can help.

eating_dining out

Hypnosis helps here because it goes straight to the root of the problem – your unhealthy eating patterns – and helps modify your behavior.

So, after this kind of treatment, your mind won’t tell you to eat sugary or fatty foods – it will tell you to eat healthy ones.

And, your mind won’t tell you to reach for a snack when you’re worried or stressed but instead will give you an alternative way to manage stress.

This behavior modification is the key to successful weight loss – and keeping it off.

Hypnosis can simply help you re-program the way your brain feels about food.

It can stop your cravings for the wrong food types and introduce cravings for healthy food instead.

It can give you the confidence to stick with a healthy eating and exercise plan and it can help you manage the issues you may have with the food you eat.

Hypnosis is such a popular solution to weight loss nowadays simply because it helps you to subconsciously accept the eating habits that will get you fit and healthy.

A good hypnotherapist, for example, will help your brain reject unhealthy foods and actually crave healthy ones.

They can also help you conquer eating issues such as stress and comfort eating and can give you the confidence to believe that you can lose weight.

So, all you need to do is to relax, let the hypnotherapy do its work and then immediately start a new life with the kind of attitude towards food and healthy eating that will ensure a healthy weight loss.

And, most importantly, because your hypnotherapy will work on core issues, the weight will stay off once you start to lose it.

You don’t even need to leave your home to achieve your goals here as this kind of solution can be successfully delivered anywhere.

Hypnosis Works

Hypnosis is a scientifically accredited method of helping people overcome all kinds of difficulties.

For example, in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology (Vol.64, No.3) in 1996 a study showed that the average weight loss without hypnosis was 6.03 pounds.

With hypnosis, average weight loss came in at 14.88 pounds. You can double your weight loss with no extra effort.

And, because hypnosis modifies your behavior at source then you stand a far greater chance of keeping the weight off rather than putting it on again.

A study that appeared in the Journal of Clinical Psychology (41) in 1985 tested a group of people who used hypnosis to lose weight and a group who did not.

Whilst both groups lost weight during the study the hypnosis group continued to lose weight after the study had finished and achieved their weight loss goals.

The group that did not have the behavior modification benefits of hypnosis did not achieve this.

Hypnosis Misconceptions

Hypnosis is considered safe as it requires no medical intervention or procedures that may cause any side effects.

However, they can be harmful if they are not performed by experienced personals who know how to handle the process of hypnosis.

The person performing hypnosis must be well trained in the art to be able to conduct a successful hypnosis to bring about a weight loss.

Nevertheless, one must remember that hypnosis by itself cannot bring about a weight loss and must be accompanied by a healthy diet chart, a regular lifestyle, exercises, and medication where required.

Do not depend on hypnosis solely for complete weight loss. A single hypnosis session for weight loss will have negligible or no viable results of weight loss.

So, do not get disheartened and lose hope if you do not see yourself reducing after your first hypnosis session.

Many misconceptions have come up with regards to the application of hypnosis in losing eight.

And because it does not involve drugs or any kinds of medications and surgery, many people tend to think that losing weight through hypnosis seems to be one of the safest weight loss programs.

To know more about hypnosis and its effects on losing weight here is a list of some facts that will give you an insight about what it can do to your body weight.
  1. Hypnosis can be an imminently risky if not done properly and not utilize by people who are highly trained with the real concept of hypnosis.

Even if many people tend to think that hypnosis will not pose imminent danger to their health.

Still, it is important to know that the person who will do the procedure is skilled enough and that he or she knows what factors to consider before doing the procedures.

  1. Hypnosis alone cannot eliminate excess fat from the body and, therefore, make somebody lose weight.

Most health experts contend that hypnosis should only be a part of a whole assimilated process. It should never be used as the sole weight loss procedure.

Moreover, one session of hypnosis will only have very minimal results on an individual’s weight.

When losing weight, hypnosis matched with psychotherapy will be more effective than hypnosis alone.

This is because hypnosis is only a state of deeply relaxing the mind, in which one can still be in control of his or her own body.

  1. Hypnosis is one way of getting into the subliminal state of a person.

When a person is on the “hypnotic stage,” the body is more responsive to suggestibility because of its intensified state of concentration.

However, this does not necessarily mean that through hypnosis, one can already “reprogram” the mind of an individual.

In reality, hypnosis can only run the range from trouble-free relaxation condition to proper initiation managed by a professional hypnotist.

Hence, it should not be considered paranormal and magical in its upshots.

Boiled down, people should be more aware that hypnosis is not a sole effective process in losing weight. It is more of a facilitator of various treatment techniques.

Therefore, it should be combined with other weight loss management program to be effective in making people lose excess weight.

In this manner, people will be able to lose more weight with a more relaxed and refreshed state of mind.

Most practitioners of hypnosis also believe that the process is best effective when combined with psychotherapy.

After all, hypnosis is a state of your mind. It helps you control your mind in a way that it is able to control your body. It enters the subliminal state of a person’s body and controls it.

They say a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. Hypnosis too works on this concept of controlling the mind and infuses in it that one needs to undergo weight loss in order to cure obesity.

It also strengthens the mind in a way so that it is better and more easily responsive to the various other weight loss treatment procedures that would follow.

This is the reason why it has always been advised to follow the process of hypnosis for weight loss in addition to regular weight loss programs to bring about complete success.

Steps in Performing Hypnosis

The first step towards getting into shape through hypnosis is to understand what really the problem is.

What is the root cause of your binging? Why can’t you help but reach out for dollops of ice-cream every time you are down?

Through the use of analytical hypnosis, we can figure out the underlying issue and then work the hypnotherapy sessions around it.

Yes, hypnosis for slimming is customized depending on the client’s situation.

A therapist will need to understand what sends you gravitating towards food.

Is it low self-confidence, self-image, depression, reward eating, or comfort eating?

Based on the analysis, a suitable hypnosis routine can be worked out for you.

The second stage here is called suggestion therapy, where you will put the power of positive suggestion to good use.

By suggesting to your subconscious what’s good for it and what isn’t you will be shaping your own future, which will definitely be leaner and fitter than your past.

Through making positive reinforcements about yourself and your eating habits to your mind you will be gently molding it to follow a healthier diet and better eating habits.

Hypnosis for weight loss is one of the easiest and most long lasting ways of losing weight and keeping it that way.

So go ahead, try hypnotherapy and lose those kilos simply by relaxing!

Uncover The Myths, The Science, And The Mystery Of Hypnosis

mystery of hypnosis

As we know, media, entertainment, literature and culture spread of hypnosis is not pretty accurate as it should be.

Now, let’s find out some myths of hypnosis, some mysteries of hypnosis and the science of hypnosis.

Common Hypnosis Myths Dispelled

The entertainment shows in Vegas and on television that show “regular” people in a so-called hypnotic trance clucking like a chicken is really just a show. These people are not hypnotized.

There is so much misinformation out there about hypnosis that it is time to set the record straight and dispel some of the many common myths about this valuable treatment.

Myth #1: You lose complete control of your mind and body.

Not true. You will not lose control over what you do and say, as the fictionalized people on TV do.

Hypnosis is simply a more focused and heightened state of consciousness. You are actually more attuned to your surroundings.

You WILL NOT lose control over your personality and your WILL maintain your integrity.

Myth #2: Your therapist will control you like a puppet.

False. Hypnosis is complete voluntary. The hypnotherapist simply uses the power of positive suggestion as the vehicle for change.

To cause change, the hypnotherapist uses suggestion to influence the subconscious mind.

Myth #3: You will forget everything that happens under hypnosis.

A majority of people that go under hypnosis remember everything that is said and done during the session.

In rare cases, people who are susceptible to deep hypnotic states will experience some level of lack of memory. However, this is rare.

Myth #4: You can be sent into a hypnotic trance against your will.

This couldn’t be farther from the truth. For hypnosis to work at all, you need to be a willing participant in allowing it to work.

The Mystery Unveiled: What Does it Feel Like?

Are you reluctant to try hypnosis for fear that you will lose control of yourself, and the hypnotist will get you to say or do things that you normally wouldn’t do?

Not to worry – that is only done for entertainment purposes, not in real, professional hypnotherapist offices.

Being hypnotized is like daydreaming.  You will be very aware of what is being said and done around you; however you will be very relaxed and focused.

Usually, when going through hypnosis you will be lying down on a comfortable couch and start relaxing. You will probably fee light, weightless, and calm.

You may not realize that you are hypnotized in the early stages of it, called pre-induction.

That is why it is very important to work with a trained professional that understands this early part of hypnosis and can use it as part of the overall treatment.

Hypnosis is completely safe! It is just an efficient quick method for entering a deep relaxed, natural state of mind and body.

There are no drugs involved, no unpleasant or unwanted side-effects and it is in no way addictive.

You just need a comfortable chair, couch or bed, a willingness to relax and let go and a trained professional or professional recording to listen to.

You are always in control of yourself before, during and after a hypnosis session.

If you are a particularly “good subject” you may forget the experience afterward but during the hypnosis session you are always aware of what is happening!

You cannot be made to do nor say anything that is against your moral or ethical codes not matter what Hollywood may tell you in “The Manchurian Candidate”!

You will be able to hear everything that is being said to and everything that is happening around you.

There are many people who actually become very sensitive to their environment.

Their 5 senses become heightened and they are even more aware of the smallest of details while in trance. Of, course you go back to normal upon “wakening”.

The vast majority of people remember everything that was said to them by the therapist when the hypnosis session is over.

In fact, it’s a pretty good bet to say that everyone who reads this article will be in that group.

It is the job of a hypnotherapist to make you feel comfortable before, during and after a session so if, at any time, you feel uncomfortable with what the therapist is doing or saying tell them to stop!

In order to get the most from any hypnosis session, you must be able to relate to the hypnotist or hypnotherapist and trust them.

For this reason, all reputable hypnosis professionals give a free consultation before you ever enter a trance state.

Seek out a hypnotist you feel comfortable with and who makes you feel that they can get the results that you are looking for – after all you are in charge!

Hypnosis is merely a tool. It is a highly effective method for producing inner change that is permanent.

Some religions forbid their followers to take part in anything that may cause them to lose control of their mental, emotional and conscious functions but believing that hypnosis or a hypnotist can do any of these things is just a misunderstanding of the process.

Hypnosis in no way interferes with your free will. You will not do anything that is against your ethics.

Under no circumstances will you ever do anything that is totally unacceptable to you or goes against your personal code of conduct.

Neither will you do anything that is against your moral code or which feels wrong to do.

If strutting around like a chicken would cause you serious embarrassment then you just won’t do it!

There is no danger of becoming trapped in a trance state. This is another Hollywood myth designed for entertainment purposes and has absolutely no basis in fact.

The real fact is – you can terminate the hypnotic session at any time you wish just by opening your eyes and stretching!

If a hypnotist, for any reason, were to leave you in a hypnotized state or a hypnotic recording stopped unexpectedly, you would either wake immediately or fall into a natural, light state of sleep and wake after a very short space of time – and this would only happen if you wanted to stay in the relaxed state!

The Science Behind Hypnosis

There is more to hypnosis than just self-induced hypnotic tapes or the receiving of suggestions from a hypnotist.

While these are both valid parts of hypnosis, there is more science behind the practice.

Brain waves are influential in the effectiveness of hypnosis. The brain has several states.  They are:

Beta: Waking state

Alpha: Focused concentration*

Theta: Deep meditation*

Delta: Dream state

When the brain is in the alpha or theta state, hypnosis is effective.

The mind is influenced while at the delta and theta states. In this situation, the voice is a powerful tool. Hence, the hypnotherapist is invaluable here.

The subconscious mind can be seen as the connection between the nervous system and the conscious mind. This is why hypnosis is often used to unblock a memory.

brain_hypnosis

How It Works

How does hypnotherapy work? A hypnotherapist will offer suggestions that the subconscious mind will accept.

Once these suggestions are accepted and implemented, the mind begins making different choices.

For example, for a patient that is trying to shed pounds, the hypnotist might suggest that food is not as appealing or tasty.

As your mind accepts the suggestions given when hypnotized, you will find that next time you are presented with a food that is not good for you, your subconscious mind will tell you it is unappealing.

Recent research lately explores more information about how hypnosisworks and how it becomes an effective therapeutic tool.

Psychodynamic Theory & Philosophy

The theory of psychodynamics focuses on people and their relationship with their surroundings and the rest of the environment.

It is believed that a majority of your world can be influenced by your mind.

The brain takes cues and suggestions as subliminal communication, and when using scientifically proven concepts change can occur rather quickly.

The change is often quite effective and long-lasting.  Overall, the psychodynamic theory of hypnosis tells us that when offered suggestions; the subconscious mind can make positive change.

Types of Hypnotic Induction

How do you get into a hypnotic state? Trained professional hypnotists use several different methods to induce hypnosis. They are:

  1. Fixed gaze – eye fixation
  2. Imagery – progressive relaxation
  3. Mental confusion
  4. Mental misdirection
  5. Loss of equilibrium
  6. Nervous system shock

The Difference Between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the clinical term used to describe treatment with a trained professional hypnotist.

This is typically used to treat a specific problem such as shyness, smoking cessation, or weight loss.

Hypnotherapy is usually done in a practice office with deliberate planning and treatment.

Often hypnosis is done in conjunction with other treatments to solve a person’s problem.

Hypnosis is the looser term for the same thing. However, it usually involves non-scientific treatment.

This can include self-hypnosis at home, and hypnosis for entertainment purposes.

How to Use Hypnosis to Your Advantage

If your life is not what you would like it to be, perhaps hypnosis can help.

It is especially helpful if you are doing things that you do not want to do (so the subconscious is ruling over the conscious mind).

For example, issues such as smoking and eating disorders.

Self-hypnosis can be used as a tool when attempting to improve yourself. Its main function is to help you be more patient while working on your self-improvement efforts.

In order for self-hypnosis to work, you must first identify the real source of the problem.

Once this is identified, you will need to truly believe that hypnosis can, and will, work for you.

To make lasting positive change in your life, you need to identify the root of the problem. Once the source has been found, you can fix it.

For example, if your problem is overeating, it is highly likely that the root of the problem actually has little to do with the food itself, rather it is something emotional.

Therefore, the goal of hypnosis should be to find the emotional issue that is causing you to eat.

Once found, you can address it head on. Hypnosis will not work if you are trying to fix symptoms instead of the real reason for the problem.

Perhaps your issues involve “passive dysfunction.” Passive dysfunction is like a mental block and is when the subconscious gets in the way of change.

Using hypnosis to uncover the real reason for the problem will help you, and your hypnotherapist, to create suggestions that will eradicate the issue.

In discovering your subconscious, ask yourself probing questions that involve the who, what, when, where, and why.

Here are a few sample questions:
  1. Who is associated with the problem?
  2. Is there a location trigger that could be associated with the source of the problem?
  3. When did the problem first start in your life?
  4. What, in particular, sparks the behavior?
  5. Why this behavior?

The answers to these questions can provide valuable insight into your dysfunction, and will be helpful when working on your problem using hypnosis.

What Are the Types of Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is broken down into three categories:
  1. The most common type of hypnosis is unconscious hypnosis. Most professional like to use the term “self-suggestion” instead because hypnosis is simply suggestions being made to the subconscious. Before unconscious hypnosis will work, the individual must believe that it will work. This positive thinking and the belief that something WILL happen can make it possible.
  2. The second type of hypnosis is conscious hypnosis.  To change your life and the way you live it, you must be aware that change is required.
  3. Lastly, there is self-hypnosis. You can use self-guided audio tapes or books to help you hypnotize yourself. Of course, as previously discussed, no one can be hypnotized unless they want to be, which is also true with self-hypnosis.

The image of hypnosis has been abused for entertainment purposes for a long time, which has damaged the reputation of a reliable and helpful tool.

Once the stigma of hypnosis has gone away, the true benefit will come into view.

How To Consume Calcium?

consume calcium

In this article, find out what is the best way to consume calcium. But before that, find out first the significance of calcium, and then some clarification about calcium confusion.

The Importance Of Calcium

Calcium is one of the most important nutrients your body needs to maintain health. It is essential to meet many of your body’s needs. Calcium plays an important role in many body functions and development.

Knowing how much calcium you need daily and where to get it can ensure that your body will reap the benefits of this great nutrient.

Calcium does many things for your body. Everyone knows calcium is beneficial to bones and teeth. It is also important to keep your muscles and nerves working properly.

It helps blood clot and keeps your heart beating properly. Lacking calcium in your diet can greatly affect your health now and in the future.

When your body does not get enough calcium it begins to take it from the bones. When this happens, if the calcium is not replaced through your diet the bones become deficient in calcium. This can lead to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a disease where the bones get thin and brittle. It is fast becoming a major disease among older adults.

Calcium is important at any age. For children calcium is essential to ensure proper bone growth.

In pregnant women calcium intake is also important. The baby needs calcium to grow and takes this calcium from the mother, so increased calcium intake is important during pregnancy.

Some guidelines for calcium are 1,200 mg. a day for children age 1-10, 1,500 mg. a day for age 11-24.

Pregnant and breast feeding mother should get 1,400 mg. a day and older adults should have 1,500 mg. a day.

It is very difficult to take too much calcium and intakes of up to 2,500 mg. have proven safe. Excess calcium is easily removed from the body through waste.

To get a good daily intake of calcium diet choices are important. At least three servings a day of dairy products is essential to maintaining good calcium levels. Broccoli is another great calcium source.

Today, many products like orange juice have calcium added. Making simple choices when buying foods with added calcium can help you to make sure you are getting enough calcium daily.

Calcium is often overlooked in its importance. Fortunately it is quite easy to add calcium rich foods into your diet. Preventing future problems is important.

Frail bones are most often contributed to a lack of calcium. To keep your body functioning properly today and in the future make sure your calcium intake is sufficient.

Did You Know Calcium Needs Magnesium To Be Absorbed?

For all the people suffering from bone loss, did you know that calcium requires magnesium in order to be utilized by the body? Magnesium by its self doesn’t need calcium to function in the body.

Calcium should never be taken without magnesium. If you are supplementing just calcium you are actually reducing the amount of magnesium in the body which can be a bad thing.

Few people realize the importance of the mineral magnesium. Magnesium influences many of the body’s processes such as digestion, energy production, muscle function, bone formation, creation of new cells, activation of B vitamins, relaxation of muscles and helps in the function of the kidneys, heart, adrenal glands, the brain and nervous system.

Every day, one looses magnesium due to mental stress, caffeine, sugar intake, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, high perspiration, low thyroid, diabetes, chronic pain (causes stress), diuretics, and diets high in carbohydrates, sodium, and calcium.

The most common symptoms of magnesium depletion that millions of people suffer from every day are low energy, fatigue, PMS and Hormonal imbalances, inability to sleep (insomnia), body tension, headaches, muscle tension, muscle spasms and craps, backaches, calcification of organs, weakening bones, heart related difficulties, anxiousness, nervousness and irritability. Everybody needs magnesium.

What country has the highest rate of pasteurized milk consumption and what country has the highest Calcium supplement consumption? The United States!

If this is true, wouldn’t you think this country would have the lowest rate of osteoporosis caused by calcium loss making bones fragile? False!

More calcium does not eliminate a calcium deficiency. Only by adding magnesium to your diet will your body be able to handle a calcium deficiency and provide adequate magnesium for the body to dissolve excess calcium from the body like bone spurs while helping the body absorb more calcium all at the same time.

Magnesium is needed for major biochemical process such as digestion, energy production, and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

According to Carolyn Dean, MD. ND., “calcium has been called the major mineral or the major nutrient mostly because there are a lot of books on osteoporosis (bone disease especially common in the elderly), and everybody thinks calcium is the major treatment for that. But if you don’t have magnesium, calcium doesn’t even work in the body.”

Milk contains 8 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium per glass. In order for the body to absorb the calcium in milk, the body has to make up for the missing magnesium.

Milk will rob the body of vital magnesium in order to process its calcium. Heavy milk drinking can cause a magnesium imbalance in the body and lead to the negative effects associated with a magnesium imbalance that was listed above.

In many countries, calcium is now added to cereals, crackers, juice, antacids and much more. None of these products add extra magnesium to bring balance back. If you’re eating dairy products and eating lots of organic yogurt, kefir, and green vegetables you’re getting a plenty of absorbable calcium.

Yogurt does not contain magnesium and if you cook your vegetables the magnesium found in the veggies will be destroyed. So, what you need is just a basic magnesium supplement to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Clearing The Calcium Confusion by Miriam Nelson, Ph.D.

Recent news reports about taking calcium may have confused women, but it is important to go beyond the headlines for your health care.

Two recent studies confirmed that women who consistently took Calcium and Vitamin D reduced their risk for fractures, reinforcing the importance of optimal daily calcium intake.

It is recommended that adults over the age of 19 should consume between 1,000 and 1,200 milligrams (mg) of calcium each day.

While peak bone mineral density (BMD) in women is reached around age 30, it is extremely important for women of all ages to make sure they are getting their recommended daily allowance (RDA) of calcium and vitamin D.

During pregnancy and through menopause, women’s calcium needs increase and lifelong supplementation is beneficial to overall health.

Additionally, bone-building exercises are a key component in building and maintaining bone health and preventing harmful bone-deteriorating diseases, such as osteoporosis.

Q: There has been a lot of talk about calcium-is it still good for me?

Yes! Calcium is an essential nutrient to the basic functions of the body. Not only is calcium a key component of bone development, but it is needed for the heart, muscles and nerves to work properly and for blood to clot.

Everyone needs calcium but as many as 75 percent of women don’t get the RDA in their diet, although they could through a combination of food and supplements.

Q: Should I do any specific exercises to help my bones?

Weight-bearing workouts and resistance training are two different types of exercises shown to improve bone health and they are explained in my updated book, “Strong Women, Strong Bones.”

Jogging, stair climbing and sports such as tennis are weight-bearing activities and weight lifting or strength training are resistance exercises.

Most recently, a study from the University of Arizona found that women who did a specific routine of six weight-bearing exercises and took Citracal® calcium citrate supplements gained 1 to 2 percent of their BMD, even though women typically lose 1 to 2 percent per year at that age.

A healthy diet and lifestyle that includes weight-bearing exercises are the first defense against osteoporosis.

The statements in this article are not intended to diagnose, treat and cure or prevent disease please consult your health care physician before discontinuing medication or introducing herbs into your diet if you are currently on medication of any kind.

Learn The Basics Of Vipassana Meditation Technique

vipassana meditation

Vipassana meditation technique is another well-renowned technique in meditation. It is one of the oldest techniques, as well.

There are a lot of people around the world who are following this Buddhist’s technique of meditation.

Vipassana meditation technique can bring peace of mind, and allows the interaction between mind and body, as well.

It teaches human beings to see life just the way it is in all its reality without being affected by it. In addition, it teaches patience and benevolence towards all humans and things.

But to understand Buddhist Meditation, you have to know the Buddhism itself is centered on the Four Noble Truths.

First, you have to realize that there is suffering in the world which happens because of ignorance and desires.

When you do understand yourself, you can finally find a way to end this suffering. Those who find the answer have reached a state of Nirvana.

This then leads to the core of Buddhist meditation which is the practice of the eight fold path.

These virtues namely are the right action, right concentration, right effort, right livelihood, right mindfulness, right speech, right thought, and right view.

The proceedings of Buddhist Meditation are based on two things. The first is called “Samatha” which means tranquility and the second is called “Vipassana” which means mindfulness.

Let’s talk about this a little further. “Samatha” meditation involves a lot of breathing which is designed to develop concentration, detachment, equanimity and happiness.

There are 40 samatha meditations and each teaches the mind to focus on a single object to produce various states of tranquility.

Vipassana meditation on the other hand develops self-understanding by being able to comprehend the things that are going inside one’s head.

By practicing this regularly, you will soon develop wisdom which makes you free from all suffering.

But do you have to be a follower of Buddhism in order to practice this kind of meditation? The answer is no even if this technique is based on the doctrines of this religion and revolves around concentration and mind control.

Vipassana technique is one of the meditation techniques, which brings integration of mind and body.

Followers of Buddha are following this technique for many years. This is the technique which brings clarity of mind and assists in reaching to the truth.

Introduction to Vipassana Meditation Technique

Vipassana is the technique which roots back to 2500 thousand years when Buddha invented this technique.

This is the technique, which gives the power to see things clearly. The other important thing is that this technique brings a high level of self-insight, which is not possible with other techniques.

Learning Vipassana Meditation Technique

There are different methods of carrying Vipassana Meditation technique and the one discussed here will bring the highest level of insight after experiencing meditation.

One of the important techniques in Vipassana is impermanence.

This technique shows that everything in this world is impermanent, means that things come and go away.

Through this practice, an individual learns to see the things without emotional attachment, and in an objective manner.

The first thing you have to do is find a quiet place where you can do this without being disturbed. Next, get a nice soft pillow or cushion to sit on if the floor is not that comfortable for you.

Now, let your hands rest on your lap with the palms facing upward. It’s hard to stay in this position for 5 minutes or more so don’t be afraid to make a few slight adjustments. The important thing is that you are comfortable the way you are.

Try to concentrate on anything happening at that moment.

The root of the technique does not have to attach to the things and ideas during such kind of meditation session.

You just have to observe things as they passing by your mind.

The first step is to concentrate on your breathing.

Then it is time to close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Anybody can do this but there are 4 proper ways of doing it. You can inhale and exhale long, inhale and exhale short, inhale short and exhale long or inhale long and exhale short.

You don’t need to control or manage your breathing.

Just need to feel the rhythm of your breathing as it is happening.

The second step to concentrate on your feelings and sensation.

Again, you don’t have to describe and label your feelings and sensations.

You have to just feel them and accept them as they are. The third important step is to concentrate on your own thoughts.

You don’t have to stick to those thoughts. Just observe them objectively, and don’t try to attach your emotions with those feelings.

This is the root of this technique that, you don’t have to get involved in anything.

You have to experience things while they are approaching and leaving.

After going through all these experiences, you have to conclude your meditation session.

You will complete it by taking a break after this fascinating session.

And you will prepare your mind to get back to your routine work. Attaching our own meaning with everything in the world is a human tendency.

Through this tendency, we try to understand the meanings of different things in our surrounding.

That is why; every person perceives things according to his own experiences and emotions.

The best thing about this technique is that it builds a tendency to observe things without attaching personal emotions and meanings.

In this way, a person practicing Vipassana Meditation becomes able to see things objectively that is, they become able to see the truth hidden in different things.

Learn how to practice Vipassana Meditation Technique:

There are some basic steps to start doing this form of meditation.

– Sit in a quiet place in a fairly dark room

– You will need to be undisturbed for at least 20 minutes

– Observe the length of each breath – whether short long or heavy

– Do not judge or try and control your breathing

– The key to Vipassana meditation is to act as a neutral spectator to your breathing

– Try to avoid your thoughts from being distracted

– In the beginning, your thoughts may get distracted. Just gently shift your focus back to the breathing

– With practice, you will be able to focus on the breathing for long periods without distraction

Whenever anyone talks about the joys of meditation, it means that the person is talking about different types of meditation.

These are types of meditation because these practices persuade peace, accord, and relief from stress in an individual.

In this post, we will try to understand that how these different meditation techniques are effective in daily life, and how they bring joy to an individual’s life.

Transcendental Meditation is one of the types of Meditation practices. This is actually the type, which has received much attention.

Researchers have conducted many kinds of research to settle down the effects of Transcendental Meditation.

It has been observed that even 20 to 30 minutes of transcendental meditation can bring relief from stress.

Moreover, there are many other benefits of transcendental meditation, which will be discussed later in this article.

Introduction to Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental meditation is the type of meditation that is a little bit different from other types of meditation.

It can tempt many positive effects on your personality if you practice it two times in a day.

It is considered as less time consuming, and one has to spend 20 minutes for one session of Transcendental Meditation.

This is the technique, which a person performs easily with closed eyes.

There are different things about Transcendental Meditation which needs to be considered and which a person must know.

These things will be discussed one by one. Maharishi introduced transcendental meditation 50 years ago. In the way, India is the origin of this technique.

After this, Indians are transferring this valuable technique from generation to generation.

They have developed proper teaching institutes for transcendental meditation.

  • This is the simplest techniques of all. One has not to put a large amount of energy in it. It has to be practiced with closed eyes.
  • One can learn Transcendental Meditation with slight effort. Practicing it is quite delightful.
  • The best thing about Transcendental Meditation technique is that it does not require any belief. Anyone who is practicing it without belief over it can get benefits from it.
  • Transcendental Meditation helps in increasing the activity of the brain, and many types of research have confirmed these findings. This technique helps in enhancing intelligence, creativity, problem solving and decision making.
  • Transcendental Meditation technique is just taken it as a technique for making health better. This does not change your lifestyle.
  • Transcendental practice helps in controlling stress and blood pressure. This preservation reduces the risk for stress, hypertension, high levels of cholesterol and heart attacks.
  • This technique is only one of its kinds. It plays a considerable role in self -development of an individual. This is the thing which is not present in other techniques.
  • There are expert teachers for teaching transcendental technique. These teachers take follow up of their teachings, as well. In this way, a person can learn and practice it, again and again, to get maximum benefit out of this technique.

The main concept while teaching transcendental technique is to get access to the inner world of silence.

This inner world exists in every individual. In this hustle and bustle of life, reaching this calm world helps individuals to realize their inner energies.

When a person reaches this inner world of calmness, his brain works with greater integrity and produces better results.

There is a large population all over the world, who is practicing transcendental meditation to purify their lives.

The reason why this technique has becomes one of the widely used techniques of meditation.

The ultimate goal of Transcendental Meditation is to make each member achieve pure consciousness.

By doing so, the individual will be able to find peace with him or herself and also with the rest of the world.

It is a simple, natural, relatively effortless meditation technique where the mind can easily and naturally look into the source of thought and achieving the settled state of the mind which is known as the Transcendental Consciousness.

It is said to be the pure consciousness which is the source of all creative processes in the human mind.

Difference between Transcendental Meditation and other types of Meditation

There are several differences between transcendental meditation technique and other types of meditation techniques.

The first important point, all other techniques instruct the individuals to think upon something. All techniques teach the development of concentration to achieve certain goals.

On the other hand, to some extent the transcendental meditation allows the control of mind with concentration.

The other major difference, other techniques of meditation work on the surface level of concentration on thought or breath.

The transcendental technique directs an individual towards the deep inner state of calmness, which enhances the overall level of awareness of an individual.

By reaching this innermost peaceful state, it eventually brings positive effects in the personality of an individual.

Benefits of Transcendental Meditation

There are several benefits of transcendental meditation. This is the only type of meditation which has received researcher’s attention.

According to one rough calculation, six hundred researches have been benefited from the effects of transcendental meditation.

These are the different benefits of transcendental meditation.

Increased Activity of the Brain

It has been observed that transcendental meditation helps prefrontal cortex to connect with other parts of the brain. This thing helps to enhance the overall activity level of the brain.

Moreover, the prefrontal cortex is involved in executive functions of the brain such as decision-making and problem-solving.

So, the higher level of connections from other parts of brain enhances its activity level.

Decrease in Stress

If someone practices transcendental meditation daily, it declines the activity of Sympathetic nervous System.

In turn, the sympathetic nervous system expands the blood vessels and reduces the amount of stress hormones such as adrenaline hormones.

In this way, transcendental meditation helps in reducing the stress of an individual.

Once, a person gets rid of stress, there are a few chances for him to be affected by heart attack, hypertension, and stroke.

Enhance Performance in the Workplace

As we have seen how transcendental meditation affects the major regions of our brain, this enhancement of brain’s performance also enhance the performance of an individual at their workplace.

Better intelligence, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities make people perform well in their jobs.

By using meditation practices, individuals make a habit of remaining peaceful and passive even under stressful situations, which enable them to meet challenges during their job.

Better Performance at Schools

It has been observed that meditation practices at school level increase the level of happiness and eagerness in children.

Meditation helps students to reduce their studies related concern and hopelessness.

Meditation also helps children with the education of disabilities to improve their performance. Through meditation, they are better able to concentrate on their minds.

Moreover, transcendental meditation increases the brain activity and executive functions of the brain, as well, which helps to reduce the symptoms of learning disabilities.

Promoting Peace in Society

Transcendental meditation has got the potential to change the society in a positive way.

If people practice this meditation technique in groups, it can produce better results for them.

A green forest cannot be green until every tree in that forest will be green. In this way, a society can never become a peaceful society until every individual is feeling peace from inside the self.

Maintaining Focus

It helps in building and maintaining the focus of an individual. A person cannot focus or concentrate on anything when there are several things in his mind.

Transcendental meditation helps the individual to reduce his distraction and develop concentration. In this way, people build potential to focus on their goals.

Better Relationships

Transcendental meditation softens the heart of an individual, as well. It induces patience in an individual and, helps him to treat everyone kindly.

This kind of attitude increases the popularity of the individual among his family members, friends, and colleagues.

More than 500 clinical studies have been done on Transcendental Meditation. One study shows that members who are in their 50’s feel much younger.

Another study shows that it improves your academic achievement, creativity, and intelligence.

Those who have been practicing it claim that it reduces problems such as anxiety, insomnia, and stress. Even those who have had addictions to alcohol or drugs in the past say that this has helped them kick the habit.

In short, Transcendental Meditation is able to improve your physical health.

Probably the biggest surprise is that one study showed that members of this movement have had fewer medical problems than those who are not.

Given the benefits it can do to those who practice it, this is probably the reason why some companies in the US offer this program to their employees.

This is because management knows that stress costs them more than 200 billion dollars annually which mean a decrease in the worker’s productivity.

One example of such a company that offers this to their employees is General Motors.

This car company has been practicing Transcendental Meditation for several years and results from a study showed that this increased the productivity in the workplace, improved morale and had a good impact on the physical health of their workers.

There are even some who have mistaken Transcendental Meditation and the organization itself to be part of the religious cult.

This is because another name by which it is known is the “Science of Creative Intelligence” which in fact is a degree that you can get after you graduate at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.

It should also be pointed out that Transcendental Meditation is scientific so you don’t have to abandon your current religion.

In fact, it can be done with little effort so it is possible for you to achieve pure consciousness regardless of your age, gender, educational background, culture or religion.

Transcendental Meditation makes you look inward so you are able to turn those dormant potentials into realities.

Of course, this can only happen over time and with practice so you will soon be able to experience an endless world of possibilities.

What Are The Basics Of Learning Self-Hypnosis?

learning self-hypnosis_c

Hypnosis is a proven method of deep relaxation that is used for creating inner changes in our thoughts, emotions and behaviors. It is also a medically recognized tool for controlling pain and reducing stress.

The most common form of hypnosis these days is self-hypnosis. This is a self-induced state of deep relaxation attained by either listening to a recording or by bringing yourself into a trance.

It is fairly easy to learn self-hypnosis and, as with everything else in life, “practice makes perfect!”  The key is to take it easy. Approach the subject with playfulness.

Do not try too hard to enter into trance for this defeat the whole purpose of hypnosis. You are going to learn how to bring yourself into a profoundly relaxed state and trying to force it to happen only makes you tense and has the reverse effect.

How To Perform Self-Hypnosis?

A major part in the art of self-hypnosis is learning to let the hypnotic state takeover by itself. Try not to analyze what is happening.

When you keep the conscious mind engaged in analyzing you will find it hard to go from the beta brainwave state (conscious waking decision making) to the alpha brainwave state (the deeply relaxed state of light trance where most hypnosis subjects stay). Just allow yourself to relax.

It is your body’s natural state to relax when you perform certain mental and physical actions, so don’t fight it by trying to figure out how or why it is happening.

Do not get discouraged or think nothing is happening if you don’t feel much change at first or if progress appears to be slow.

After some practice you will find entering a state of self-induced trance become easy and natural as you teach your body and mind to relax.

Don’t expect to be an expert right off the bat! Expecting yourself to be as good as Paul McKenna or Dick Sutphen on your first attempt is setting yourself up for frustration.

It takes time to learn hypnosis and unless you are truly fortunate it will take time to teach your body and mind to let go and enter this state effortlessly – but it will happen.

Remember that there are various ways to experience hypnosis and no two people will experience trance in exactly the same way. Expect your experience to be the same as someone else’s!

It is a good idea to set aside a regular time to practice your new skills. Give yourself the gift of 15 to 30 minutes every day or every other day to practice self-hypnosis.

Make sure you will not be disturbed and that your environment is quiet. You may be surprised that you do not actually get sleepy or fall asleep during hypnosis, although the body does enter into that type of relaxed posture.

You may find that initially you tend to fall asleep while practicing self-hypnosis. If this happens just practice at an earlier time when you are less fatigued until you perfect the technique. If falling asleep is still a problem then practices it while sitting in an upright chair.

Before you begin, set an intention for the session. Do you want more confidence, higher self-esteem, the perfect relationship or an improvement in your finances? You will now use one of two techniques which will be used as post hypnotic suggestions.

Create some positive affirmations that state you are already they you wish to be or you are already in possession of your desire and memorize them.

If this seems like too much work then just imagine you already have your desire and make a mental movie of it.

See yourself experiencing it as if it were happening now. You will use one of these techniques when you enter trance to reprogram your subconscious mind!

Begin by sitting or lying comfortably. Keep your head straight, pointing forward, but look up at a spot on the wall – do not bend your neck.

Your eyes should be looking slightly up. Breathe in to the count of five and out to the count of five. This will cause your body to let go of tensions and stresses. Now, curl your toes on both feet and tense them while you inhale to the count of five.

Now relax on your exhale to the count of five. Move up to your legs. Tense them and relax. Keep breathing in to the count of five and out to the count of five. Now tense your whole pelvic and buttock region. And relax. All the time breathing deeply.

Move up to your stomach, then your chest, neck, face and head, repeating the tensing and relaxing procedure while breathing deeply. Allow your eyes to close naturally at any time during this relaxation exercise. You will find that within a very short period of time it takes more and more effort to keep them open.

Once your eyes are shut and you have relaxed your entire body, imagine that you are at the top of a winding dark staircase with ten steps. Keep breathing deeply to the count of five.

Move down to the first step, noticing that you can only see a few steps ahead of you as the rest are shrouded in a calm still darkness.

Mentally say the word 10. Now move to the next step and mentally say 9. Then, the next saying 8. Move progressively down the steps until you reach the bottom.

During this exercise you can allow your breathing to return to normal or keep the deep breathing up if you prefer.

Once you have reached the bottom imagine there is a large wooden door in front of you walk towards it and open it. On the other side you find a moving escalator going down. Move onto it and feel it bringing you down, down, down. Deeper, deeper, down.

When you reach the bottom imagine you can walk slightly forward until you find yourself in a quiet relaxing setting. Just let it appear. It may be a garden, a beach, a forest or a favorite place from childhood. It could be anywhere.

Just allow your subconscious mind to show you where you are. Relax in whatever way seems appropriate to you in that special place.

At this stage you can mentally give yourself post hypnotic suggestions in the form of “I am….”, or “I allow____ to enter my life with ease” and the likes.

If you prefer not to have to remember mentally spoken instructions then recall your visualization and place yourself inside it!

This is important see the scene through YOUR eyes as though it were a memory. Do not visualize yourself in the scene the way you would see another person. Experience it from your perspective. Do this for as long as it is enjoyable.

Once you have finished and are ready to return to normal waking consciousness, simply count back from 10 to 1 and mentally say “wide awake, wide awake”.

Stretch, give yourself a few seconds to re-adjust to your surroundings and then go about your daily activities.

You will find this short exercise in self-hypnosis most beneficial, rejuvenating and life-altering!

The Acupuncture Alternative Medicine Up Close

the acupuncture

Using Acupuncture To Reduce Pain In Your Life

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medication technique that has been around for centuries.

Acupuncture practitioners insert thin needles through the skin to stimulate specific points on the body called acupuncture points.

The theory involved is to regulate the flow of Qi (life force) along the pathways know as meridians.

Acupuncture is used as a treatment for various diseases by acupuncture practitioners. In modern times, acupuncture has been shown to alleviate pain that was not able to be treated with painkillers.

It is also said to be able to cure the pain that exists in the body by treating the root cause.

There are no side effects associated with acupuncture when performed correctly. This is important for patients who experienced side effects caused by over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) and narcotics.

The growing reliance on painkillers may be one of the factors that patients are seeking alternative treatments such as acupuncture.

Although there are several research showing the benefits of acupuncture, it is important to discuss with your family doctor before attempting any alternative treatment.

Different people respond differently to acupuncture. If acupuncture has not helped in resolving your pain for several weeks, acupuncture might not be the right treatment.

acupuncture

What is the History of Acupuncture?

Acupuncture comes from two Latin words namely “acus” which means needle in English and “pungere” which means prick.

Its history originated in China more than 2000 years ago and has evolved into various forms.

Some of the techniques of acupuncture do not even use needles anymore. Vibrating objects, ultrasound and even the fingers of the practitioner have taken some of the work to make the person feel better.

The history of acupuncture is first discussed in an ancient Chinese medical text called the “Huang Di Nei Jing” or The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine.

But there have been a few who are the skeptics like the archaeologists who have found a 5,000-year-old mummy in the Alps with similar acupuncture points in the body.

This gives some people the idea that it was used even before the Chinese did but sine there is no written text to prove that, no one is certain and credit to this ancient practice goes back to the Chinese.

In the 6th century, this knowledge moved to Japan. In the 17th century, a man by the name of Waichi Sugiyama wanted to make this procedure painless for the patient.

He developed the insertion tube, a small cylindrical tube through which the needle is inserted. Believe it or not, this technique is still being used today.

But acupuncture only reached the US in the early 80’s with the establishment of a regulatory board called the National Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

As a result, various schools have been built and those who want to become licensed acupuncturists are now able to practice their profession.

Despite of that, there were a lot of people who are not yet convinced on the positive effects of alternative forms of medication.

It was only in 1995 that the US Food and Drug Administration decided to classify the needles used for acupuncture as medical instruments and assured the public that they are both safe and effective.

To further promote acupuncture, the NIH or National Institute of Health in 1997 has stated that this technique is very useful in treating various health conditions.

These include ear, nose, throat, respiratory, gastrointestinal, eye, nervous system and muscular disorders. In some cases, acupuncture is able to prevent some of them from happening.

nature sleep_2

This was further strengthened by the fact that the side effects of acupuncture are much less than that of conventional drugs that are being sold by pharmaceutical companies.

So that people can avail of acupuncture, another recommendation by the NIH is for US companies to provide full coverage for certain conditions.

If you do not quality, perhaps there is partial coverage which you should look up in your policy.

But despite that, more research needs to be done to see its effects on other health related problems. Some examples of these include addictions, autism, chronic low back pain, migraines and osteoarthritis of the knee.

If you look at the history of acupuncture, not much has changed since the needle technique used back then is still being used today.

Even if various forms have developed through the years, one thing for sure is that it works.

In order for you to see how effective it is, you have to see a specialist who is not only qualified to treat your condition but also one is well trained.

The Energy of Acupuncture

When it comes to acupuncture, you will find that there are basic concepts that you have to understand in order to learn the entire process known as “qi”. Qi happens to the energy of the body.

Anything negative that your body may go through, like disease or illness, is because your Qi is disrupted.

When it comes to the stimulation that you will get from Acupuncture, you will find that there are needles that are placed in specific points of the body so that the Qi flow can be affected.

An acupuncturist is someone who uses the use of the needles to heal or unblock your qi flow. The concepts of the qi is difficult for most beginners, but it can be broken into easily understand concepts that you can learn one at a time.

First, it is important to note there are five main types of qi energy: Qi, Jing, Xue, Jin Ye, and Shen. Qi can be roughly translated to “matter-energy.”

It causes the movements in the universe, but it is a vital part of your own good health. Some equate the Qi to the soul. Jing can be most closely translated to “essence” in the English language, but there are no exact words in Western terms that mean Jing.

When it come to Jing, it is something that is inherited like DNA and then we are able to create out own by eating certain foods and through the air that we breathe.

Jing, then can be somewhat called “health,” since we genetically receive some health predisposition, but also affect your own health and the health of your children with your lifestyle choices.

Literally meaning blood, Xue is the liquid that flows in the blood and through the Qi or energy of the body. The health of the two is dependent on one another. Jin Ye is also a tangible idea—bodily fluids.

These include saliva, milk, tears, genital secretions, sweat, stomach fluids, and other liquids of the body. Finally, Shen is simply just the spirit of the body. Traditionally, your spirit is located in your heart.

Acupuncture is a way that you can treat the energies and to help create a healthy body.

The energies are important since that help us develop body heat, defend illness, grow and develop, control the body’s blood and organs, transform, and break down the body’s metabolism.

If you get acupuncture done on a regular basis, then you will be able to turn all of your negativity in your Qi to be released.

Types of Acupuncture

There are different types of acupuncture. Whichever you decide to use, they are designed to do the same thing and that is to relieve pain or treat certain diseases.

The first is called TCM based acupuncture.

Here, it uses eight principles of complementary opposites to create harmony in the body. These include yin/yang, internal/external, excess/deficiency, hot/cold.

Next is called French energetic acupuncture.

This is often used by MD acupuncturists. Meridian patterns are emphasized here particularly the yin-yang pairs of primary meridians.

Korean hand acupuncture is another.

The practitioners believe that the hands and feet have concentrations of qi, and that applying acupuncture needles to these areas is effective for the entire body.

There is also auricular acupuncture.

It is believed that the ear is a microcosm of the body. This means that acupuncture needles are placed on certain points on the ear so it can treat certain addiction disorders.

Myofascially-based acupuncture is often utilized by physical therapists.

It involves feeling the meridian lines in search of tender points before applying needles as this is where abnormal energy flows.

Japanese styles of acupuncture referred to as “meridian therapy,” tend to put more emphasis on needling technique and feeling meridians in diagnosis.

Impulses of electromagnetic energy can also be used as the body generates tiny but electrical discharges which influence the function, growth, and maturity of certain types of cells.

By inserting the needles in these areas, it stimulates and alters the neurotransmitters in the body thus making the patient feel better after treatment. This is also sometimes used for diagnosis and testing.

There are also other forms of acupuncture that do not use needles. For instance, there is sonopuncture that uses an ultrasound device that transmits sound waves to points in the body to treat a patient. Some practitioners use a tuning fork or other vibration devices.

antianxiety_1

Acupressure is another. Here, the professional will use their hands to relieve the pain. This can be used on its own or with other manual healing techniques.

The number of treatments you will need depends on the patient’s condition.

On average this could be from 10 to 5 treatments and 2 to 3 times a week. How much it will cost also varies as this could be from $40 to $150.

Some insurance companies and HMO’s now cover that or partially so you should check if this is included in your policy.

Anyone can try acupuncture to relieve pain or prevent one but many practitioners decline to see someone during pregnancy. But if you have already started, it is generally safe to do so until the infant is born.

Some acupuncturists may ask you to take in some herbs as part of the treatment.

Since you have no idea what it can do, have this checked first by your local doctor to make sure this is safe as this could interact with the drugs you are taking causing side effects.

Which type of acupuncture should you try? That is up to you. All of them are effective so discuss this with your doctor and do some research so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Each of these is painless so just relax and let the professional do the rest.

Just like conventional medicine, don’t expect an improvement overnight as this takes time so just keep an open mind.

What are some Myths About Acupuncture?

There are a lot of myths with regards to acupuncture. Some of these are true; others are silly while the rest only have a half truth. As you read on, you will learn which ones are worth believing.

The first myth is that acupuncture is painful.

This is not true because those who have tried it claimed they only experienced a tiny prick while others did not feel anything at all.

There is no tissue damage when the needle is inserted into the skin or pulled out and only in very rare cases there are traces of bruising.

The second myth is that you can get hepatitis or AIDS from acupuncture.

This is true only if the needles used are not sterilized. In the US, this will never happen because acupuncturists are required to use disposable needles thus you are not at risk from these two diseases.

Third, acupuncture is used to treat pain.

This is only a half-truth because this holistic technique has been proven to do other things such as stop a person’s addiction, lose weight and prevent certain illnesses.

Fourth, there are some who think that Asians are the only ones that can practice acupuncture.

Since 1982, there are already 50 schools all across the country that teach students about this technique and become licensed acupuncturists.

This means that anyone who has the desire to learn about this ancient practice can do so and help treat patients. Just to give you an idea, there are at least 3,000 acupuncturists now working in the US.

Fifth, medical doctors do not believe in the potential of alternative medicine.

This is not true because there are more doctors these days that are open to the idea that there are other ways to help patients aside from conventional medicine.

In fact, some of them even recommend an acupuncturist if they know that what they have done is not effective.

Another myth is that every patient will undergo the four needle technique.

This is not true and it will only be used when the specialist feels that the energy of the patient is virtually not moving as a last resort.

The seventh myth is that it is better for a medical doctor to perform acupuncture.

This is wrong because the training is much different than that taught in medical school. Students who have an acupuncturist license train for 3,000 hours before they are allowed to practice this profession.

Between an acupuncturist and a medical doctor, you should go with someone who has learned about this much longer.

The eighth myth is that acupuncture is only used in third world countries.

This is not true because this technique originated in China more than 2000 years ago and this has spread to developed nations in Asia such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia.

In the United States, acupuncture been practiced for more than 2 decades and is legal in 30 states. In fact 22 of them, license professionals after they graduate once they pass the state board examination.

Although acupuncture has been around for a very long time, there is still a need for this form of holistic healthcare which is why this is being taught in colleges and in use today.

It is painless and cost-efficient and a lot of studies have shown that it is effective in treating various illnesses and preventing some of them.

What Is The Relationship Between Hypnosis And The Mind?

hypnosis an mind

The power of your Mind is truly awesome.  You can use your mental powers to achieve success that, up until now, you have only ever dreamed of.

It is a Universal truth that life tends to move you towards the physical equivalent of your predominant thoughts and feelings.

A great many people are well aware of this fact but most find it extremely difficult to apply this knowledge and put it to work effectively in their lives.

The expression mind over matter refers to our mind’s ability to overcome a challenging situation.

Giving up smoking, for example, is an ongoing mental battle between wanting a cigarette and equally wanting to resist the craving.

power of the mind

Hypnosis and the Mind

The mind has the power to relieve those intense cravings by arming you with the message that you don’t really want a cigarette, and that you’re so much happier without one.

Your intense focus and concentration on those positive thoughts is in itself a degree of hypnosis. You’re utilizing the power of your mind to overcome a challenging situation.

Therein lays the basic principle of self-hypnosis: utilizing the most powerful tool at your disposal, your mind, to help you through challenging situations which you’re unable to overcome through will alone.

Whether it be emotional problems, or physical pain of some kind, the power of the unconscious mind can alleviate your conscious awareness of that emotion or pain.

But for that to happen, you first need to get in touch with your unconscious mind. That is what self-hypnosis can do. It can help you get in touch with your unconscious mind and benefit from its power.

We do it daily. We all learn and benefit from our unconscious mind without being aware of it.

We may spend hours so completely focused on a specific thing that we literally don’t recall having a conscious thought throughout that period of time.

All this while, our unconscious mind is working for us and we don’t even realize it.

It seems to most of us that our thoughts are random, sometimes erratic and beyond our control.

Our emotions truly do run us most of the time. When we have an emotional response to a thing we tend to go into automatic thinking as the subconscious programs in our mind take over.

All too often these programs are just rehashed memories that create negative emotions and negative thoughts that hinder us from moving in the life direction that we really want.

Our dominant thoughts and feelings are usually negative in nature due to the conditioning that has taken over on this planet.

The real power you wield is the conscious ability to change your dominant automatic thinking.

By doing so you can ensure your feelings and thoughts are more positive in nature, more aligned with your desires and are therefore creating the life experiences that you want.

This may sound like a tall order but there are many great techniques and tools to accomplish this. One of the best tools to recondition your mind for success is self-hypnosis.

Likewise, hypnosis can help people reach their goals, just like manipulation. Because the human mind can be divided into the subconscious part and conscious part, and because each is different in functions, it means there are more ways of working with your brain.

Hypnosis uses the subconscious, because, unlike the conscious, which directs an activity, it controls it.

The unconscious psychical aspects, which don’t require involvement or control, can be dealt with through hypnosis.

Its popularity is increasing daily because of the major changes that can be done with it easily and quickly.

Academic applications of hypnosis like the apprehension of communication skills, memory development, and removal of mental blocks, the elimination of stage fright and class participation fear can be very useful for children, but for grown-ups as well.

nootrogen_1

Hypnosis is great for those who need to enhance their motivation and improve their performances by overcoming their fears of public speech, of tests, of failure. Sometimes, the hypnosis helps you uncover the real mental problem and fix it.

The therapeutic effects of hypnosis are most appreciated by persons with addictions, emotional and stress disorders obsessions and habits. Without help, the persons who suffer because of these problems don’t stand a chance.

Most know the torment of the desire or drive to commit the habit. Smoking, drinking and the unusual addictions to working or watching TV can be cured with hypnosis by changing the subconscious motivation.

For some, quitting is easy, but for others, it can be difficult no matter what method they use. However, hypnosis makes the process easier because it goes to the guts of the problem.

Interpersonal relationships are influenced by human behavior. In both career and romance, the way we act and what we say is of high importance. The subliminal and supraliminal language is decisive in how you want people to see you.

It is possible, with the help of hypnosis, to induce a certain image of yourself to those around you, but, because we cannot be sure how others think and how much we can control their actions, hypnosis can change your image of yourself.

This might even be better. After all, the most important, what you think of yourself.

This way, through hypnosis, you will change yourself and the subliminal messages sent to others “controlling” them.

Hypnosis has been used by wise men and women for centuries to create relaxed physical and mental states and condition the mind to respond differently to outside stimuli.

It is just as relevant and effective today as it ever has been.

nootrogen_2

In fact, with technological breakthroughs and advances in mind conditioning, it is possible to create profound lasting change with self-hypnosis recordings.

Many of the new recordings, by the best hypnotherapists, include binaural beat technology which entrains the brain to enter into specific mental states ideal for learning and reconditioning, and NLP exercises.

There are a great many recordings that are of poor quality, both in their sound and their suggestions, so beware. However, there are some excellent pre-made sessions on subjects that are as varied as the people who use them.

It is, however, possible for you to enter a hypnotic trance by yourself and then give yourself carefully chosen post-hypnotic suggestions, with just as much power as any hypnotist. These can be a list of simple affirmations that you mentally repeat while in the deeper stages of trance.

The trance state is so relaxing that most times you don’t really want to leave it as the conscious mind becomes extremely lazy while hypnotized.

Some prefer pre-made sessions or to visit a trained hypnotherapist.

Nonetheless, if you prefer to perform your own hypnotic session, which many people do, you must first ensure that you have a clear intention about your purpose and the objective you have in mind before you enter into a hypnotic state.

Ask yourself what you want to achieve from the hypnotic session.

You can use self-hypnosis and post-hypnotic suggestions very effectively to make any mental or emotional change you can think of.

Four Laws of the Mind Essential for Effective Self-Hypnosis

To make your self-hypnosis effective you need to be aware of certain principles.

If you are not aware of the following laws of the mind then you may end up creating the opposite of what you desire with your self-hypnosis practice.

1. Every thought affects the body as well.

In other words, although the mind and the body are understood to be separate in practice it doesn’t work that way. Mental stress can create knots in your back or even give you ulcers.

Therefore, Be aware of your thinking. If you are negative all the time to yourself or about your surroundings it is the same as negative self-hypnosis.

2. What you expect tends to be realized.

If you wake up telling yourself you will have a bad day you probably will. In other words, your expectations drive your results. Negative expectations are the same as negative self-hypnosis.

3. Imagination is stronger than knowledge.

You ‘know’ that ghosts and monsters do not exist. Yet hearing ghost stories at night will create fear. Especially if sitting around a campfire in a forest.

There is no contest. Imagination will always win. This is another point for the importance of positive thoughts and visualizations in your practice of self-hypnosis.

4. What you resist the most stays with you.

Have you ever had to stop doing something and found that it’s more difficult than you realized? Maybe you have had occasion to go on a diet and suddenly foods that you couldn’t have cared less about start looking very appetizing?

Maybe there was/is someone who irritates you and you know there is no reason to. So you try to keep the irritation away but it gets to you even more?

Basically, when you resist something it tends to stick. This happens because when you resist you have to think of the very thing you are trying to resist, so it’s continuously on your mind.

It’s as if someone told you that they would give you a $1000 if you don’t think of a pink elephant all day.  I’m sure you don’t spend your time thinking of something as random as a pink elephant. However, trying to resist that image of a pink elephant with a $1000 on the line would be impossible.

In other words, what you resist tends to stay with you. This means that in focusing on an affirmation for self-hypnosis, you have to phrase the affirmation in the positive.

For example, affirm what you want to achieve and NOT on what you don’t want.

Follow these four laws of the mind and your day to day thoughts will be more guided in a positive direction.

Of course, your thoughts create your internal emotional state which is the same as self-hypnosis. So you have to be aware of your thoughts to create the state of being that you desire.

Once you have decided what it is you want to achieve from your hypnotic session write a few affirmations that reflect your desires.

Make sure you word these statements in the first persona and also in the third person, as though you were talking to someone else with your name.

For example, if you wish to develop more confidence you would write “I grow more confident everyday” and “[state your name] you grow more confident everyday”.

Also, form a mental picture of what that new confident you looks like. Imagine how you will feel when you have that new found confidence. Exactly how does that “other” you walk with confidence?

How does that “you” talk with confidence? How does the “other you” react to everyday life, stressful situations and other people? How does that confident you think, dress and what is their approach life?

This picture is very important. During trance, you will picture that confident you standing before you and bring it to life in your mind’s eye.

Then you will step into this confident you and actually become that person. Afterward, you should recite your affirmations while thinking, feeling and imagining you walk, talk, dress and approach life as this confident “other” you!

This form of self-hypnosis incorporates NLP and is used to directly program your subconscious so that it will help you create that confident you in the real world.

The affirmations act as post-hypnotic suggestions which reinforce the NLP work and ensure your subconscious mind holds the correct “self-talk” that you are constantly involved in during the day.

This inner dialogue can make or break a person and it is important to program your mind with positive messages.

To create a state of trance in order to perform these mental sequences is quite easy. First find a quiet restful place where you will not be disturbed.

Once there sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Keep your head looking straight ahead and lift your eyes to look at a spot on the wall just above eye level.

Count from 20 down to 10 in a slow manner until you feel your eyes start to strain. You will want to close them. Allow your eyelids to close and continue counting until you reach the number 1.

Then imagine that a long winding staircase with 20 steps is there in front of you.

Move to the first step as you mentally say, “20. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper.

Then take the next step and say, “19. Deeper and deeper still”.

Then move to the next step and say, “18. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper.

Then the next saying, “17. Deeper and deeper still.”

Continue this until you reach the last step and imagine that the staircase has led you to a door. Open the door. Open it and see what is there. This is your special sanctuary where you are relaxed and safe at all times.

Once you enter your sanctuary perform the mental exercise given above. When you have finished your exercises, count up from 1 to 10 telling yourself that you are becoming wide awake with every number.

You will find that when you return to normal consciousness you are fully revitalized yet calm and relaxed. Perform your self-hypnosis everyday for 30 days and you will have created permanent changes in your mind and body.

Now that you understand the process involved with self-hypnosis and now have the skills to bring yourself into a hypnotic trance, the changes you can make and results you can create are only limited by your imagination!

Your unconscious mind is yours to learn from. Choosing to subscribe to self-hypnosis is just taking an already powerful tool to the next level, and getting the most benefit you possibly can out if it.

Master The Different Usage Of Aromatherapy

usage of aromatherapy

for download_prcvir

Aromatherapy is the process of enjoying certain scents, which are commonly used in scented candles and bath salts.

Many do not realize this, but certain scents have calming effects and enable the individual to feel more relaxed and free of stress.

Beginning ‘bona fide’ aromatherapy, beyond burning a scented candle or soaking with a pleasing pre-packaged bath salt blend, can be a little daunting to many people.

All those little bottles of pricey liquids, electric contraptions, and fancy-sounding blends – how does one actually use essential oils to improve their health, happiness, and well-being?

It’s easier than one might think – getting started can open a whole new world of fun and effective natural remedies that can lift your mood, calm your nerves, and support healing of a great many common ailments.

The basics of aromatherapy are simple, once a few fundamental concepts are understood.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils – the aromatic compounds of plants, extracted through steam distillation or other methods.

The oils act as the chemical messengers and protectors of the plant kingdom.

Each essential oil can contain hundreds of different ‘volatile’ (easily evaporated) compounds, most of which are very compatible with the physiology of the human body.

What’s so wonderful is they can also do for us what they do for plants – act as chemical messengers through affecting our smell sense and limbic system, and defending the body against foreign invaders by their antibacterial and anti-viral actions.

Essential oils are best used in one of two simple ways: through inhalation, where the oils can directly affect certain areas of the brain, and through topical application, where the oils are easily absorbed into the bloodstream.

(Note: Oral ingestion can be an option, but only under experienced medical supervision – further, SOME OILS CAN BE TOXIC, and other even seemingly harmless oils should not be used under certain conditions. If you are pregnant or have specific medical needs, consult a knowledgeable practitioner before continuing!)

Inhalation of Essential Oils

Essential oils when inhaled directly affect our limbic system, the brain’s emotional centers. Many oils have been found to sharpen concentration, reduce tension and anxiety, and even reduce depression.

How can we reap these magnificent benefits?

There are a few simple, cost-effective ways to prepare essential oils for inhalation – and experience these wonderful effects. These are the ‘handkerchief method’, making your own ‘smelling salts’, and making your own aromatherapy ‘mister’.

The handkerchief method is pretty straightforward – put a drop or two of oil or blend on a tissue and inhale. Be careful with some oils, though – peppermint, for example, can burn the sensitive skin around your nostrils if put in direct contact.

You can even leave the tissue or ‘handkerchief, or piece of cloth, or cotton in a room or your work-space and the oil will continue to evaporate and have its effects.

Making your own ‘smelling salts’ is similar, though your preparation will last a while longer. To make the salts, fill a small vial (dark glass with a good cap is best) with natural sea salt and drop essential oils into the salt.

The amount of oil is not too critical – enough that there is detectable aroma, and not so much that the salt gets completely wet.

Just unscrew the cap and inhale from the bottle whenever you need a lift, or, like the handkerchief, leave the vial open in your space, letting the aroma slowly fill the area.

A ‘mister’ can be used infuse a room with aroma – just add essential oils to water in a small spray bottle, shake (before each use) and spray!

Here are a few easy recipes for the inhalation method

(Note: in all recipes, the number of drops of oil and/or amount of carrier can be used as a ratio, which you can increase or decrease as you need):

For uplifting the mood and brightening the mind:

4 drops of Rosemary Cineol

3 drops of Lavender

2 drops of Lemon

and 1 drop of Peppermint

OR 3 drops Clary Sage

2 drops Bergamot

and 1 drop Sweet Orange

For calming anxiety:

equal parts of Roman Chamomile, Bergamot, and Orange

OR 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Neroli and 1 drop Bergamot

For creating a harmonious atmosphere:

 3 drops Jasmine

1 drop Ylang Ylang

and 1 drop Sandalwood

OR equal parts Geranium, Patchouli, and Bergamot

Aromatherapy Massage

For the topical application method, usually, this is described as aromatherapy massage. Ideally, this is done with a partner, but self-massage will work as well.

Creating your own massage oil is a straightforward process – just dilute 10 – 20 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil.

There are a variety of carrier oils available, though Sweet Almond is a great all-around oil and is recommended for general aromatherapy massage.

For massage purposes, people often mix more than one essential oil to give the desired effect. The most common of these is the lavender, clary sage, and lemon blend. It is known as the stress blend.

As for the massage, itself, any technique will do – let your intuition be your guide. When you wish to get a little more advanced, do a little further research to create synergy with certain essential oils and certain acupressure points.

The same blends for inhalation can be used for massage, though here are a few more fun recipes:

For a sensual massage, per ounce of carrier oil, add – 8 drops Sandalwood, 6 drops Rose, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops Ylang Ylang.
For opening the heart, try 4 drops Spikenard, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops of Rose.
Finally, for sheer relaxation, use 6 drops Lavender, 4 drops Neroli and 2 drops Bergamot.

Don’t be afraid to create your own blends! You will certainly find particular oils that you enjoy – and aromatherapy is like that.

It is the oils you find most enjoyable that are likely those that are most effective for you. My only recommendation is to change the ratios of oils you are blending very slowly.

Start with one drop of each oil in a small vial, mixing them and allowing a few minutes for them to blend before adding more oil 1 drop at a time.

In general, citrus oils like Orange, Bergamot, Lemon or Lime tend to bring alertness while calming at the same time.

Herb oils like Peppermint or Rosemary tend to be invigorating, while floral oils tend to be relaxing such as Lavender, Chamomile, Jasmine or Neroli.

This is only a guideline – many oils have complex properties and will affect individuals differently – use your nose as a guide.

bath salts

Homemade Aromatherapy Bath Salts

Creating your own bath salts is a terrific way to enjoy aromatherapy at home. Surprisingly, bath salts are very affordable to make and require no harsh ingredients.

In fact, the main ingredients in bath salts include baking soda, table salt, and Epsom salt. Each of these is commonly found in a local grocery or retail store and is safe to use.

Certain bath products, which are found in the world of retail, may contain harsh ingredients that could irritate the skin.

The advantage to creating your own bath salts to use as aromatherapy, however, will ensure that you know which ingredients are going into a product and the peace of mind in knowing that they are safe to use.

Individuals can make their own aromatherapy bath salts by starting with a large mixing bowl and a spoon or other similar utensil.

The next step is to add 3 cups of Epsom salt, 2 cups of baking soda and 1 cup of table salt into the mixing bowl. Once each of the ingredients is added, begin mixing them with your hand or the spoon.

Once mixing is complete, slowly add food coloring to the mixture. Normal food coloring will work fine and should be added according to the color that you prefer your bath salts to be.

Adding more drops will darken the color and adding fewer will make it softer. Some individuals enjoy mixing the colors in order to get a unique hue, but this mixture should be done prior to placing the coloring into the mixing bowl with your other ingredients.

The final step is to add essential oils until the desired scent is achieved. The best way to determine when the scent is perfect is simply by using your own judgment.

Bath salts should be strongly scented in order to allow for less salt to be required for each bath, which will enable them to last longer.

Using the steps and ingredients as noted above, you can also use a bowl with a lid and shake the mixture, food coloring and essential oils until it is perfectly blended.

This will save you time from stirring but, otherwise, the procedure to creating your own aromatherapy bath salts is the same.

potpourri-uses of aromatherapy

Common Aromatherapy Uses

Aromatherapy as used today originated in Europe and has been practiced there since the early 1900s. Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that each oil has a vibration or note, which can be used for different therapeutic applications.

Aromatherapy can be used to relax and soothe the mind and body, to energize or even to arouse. It derived from the use of essential oils to solicit specific emotions.

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their health supporting properties. The powerful aromas of essential oils affect your moods and feelings through your sense of smell.

By selecting a particular scent, you can encourage a state of relaxation, romance, healing or comfort. Essential oils can be used in Aromatherapy, to scent potpourri, lotions, cosmetics, perfumes, food flavorings and medicinally.

Additionally, oils can be used in creating sachets, potpourri, reviving potpourri, and for light bulb scenting.

Essential oils can also be used through bath, diffusion, massage, or compress. Each individual person, fabric, or material may react differently to a particular suggested use.

Essential oils can be mixed in a cream essential oil combinations are applied directly to the skin for beauty care or treatment of sores or irritations.

By using different essential oils, you can control the nature of those benefits.

These essential oils are taken from a plant’s flowers, leaves, stalks, bark, rind, or roots.

The yield of essential oil differs with individual plant species ranging in most cases from about 0.2 to 2.0%.

That’s why literally tons of plant material is required for just a few hundred pounds of oil.

In some cases, different organs of a single plant may contain essential oils of different chemical composition. In the end, even the smallest bottle of essential oil can create a lot of powerful solution.

It is important to note that the benefits of aromatherapy do depend on the unique nature of each person’s response to an aromatic stimulus.

How To Have A Healthy Colon The Natural Way?

healthy colon

for download_prcvir

How to maintain a healthy colon in a natural way?

Keeping your colon healthy prevents the body from 65 chronic diseases. Among these are constipation, malnutrition, irritable bowel movement, diarrhea, candida, Crohn’s, cardiovascular problems, and cancer.

The colon is the part of the digestive system that ditches extra waste substance out from the body. It is around five feet long.

Its main function is to absorb water, vitamins, and nutrients that goes to the blood stream which is then dispersed to all parts of the body to keep it functioning normally. Excess and unneeded toxic materials are excreted from the colon as feces.

Over time, plaque forms in the colon’s lining making it less efficient in the absorption of materials that the body needs. As the plaque keeps on building up, the colon then will get congested with decaying materials.

The decaying materials stick to the colon’s lining that in turn breed unhealthy bacteria that form toxins. These toxins are then absorbed into the bloodstream causing various illnesses and diseases.

Before the onset of illnesses, though, a possible sign of an unhealthy colon is when the body feels sluggish and is having mood swings.

Fats, especially oxidized fats and cholesterol, free radicals as well as other irritating molecules act as toxins.

Likewise, poor digestion, colon sluggishness, and dysfunction, lessens liver function. In addition, poor waste disposal by the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all contribute to increased toxins in the colon.

Detoxification is important for healthy living as well as enhancing the elimination of toxins in the colon and throughout the body.

Minimized intake of some chemicals from food and other sources of refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as many drugs, helps to remove toxins in the body. The process of detoxification invites for a lifestyle change and wise selections of food.

For detoxifying or cleansing the colon, it is also noteworthy to include probiotics in your diet in order to furnish the good bacteria in the intestines.

A probiotic is an organism which contributes to the health and balance of bacteria in the intestinal tract. It’s also commonly referred to as the body’s friendly bacteria and helps in fighting illness and diseases.

A healthy intestine contains at least 85% of beneficial bacteria to prevent over colonization of disease causing organisms like salmonella and E. coli.

But sadly, most people do not have the required amount of friendly bacteria in their intestine, resulting in various colon related diseases.

Probiotics are also excellent immune system enhancers since they prevent unfriendly organisms from congesting the body. Probiotics also prevent overgrowth of yeast and fungus and produces substances that lower cholesterol.

colon detox_2

Is Colon Cleansing important?

Regular bowel movements are vital for maintaining a healthy body. Irregular bowel movements are an indication of future colon problems.

This is the reason why eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet is so important. The typical diet of most people today includes a great deal of refined sugar, white flour, and hormone/antibiotic-filled meats. These types of foods contribute to the demise of our colons.

Colon cancer is the second deadliest cancer, causing deaths not only in the US but also in other parts of the world. This is also the reason why it is essential to have a healthy, correctly functioning colon. Colon cleansing is vital for the elimination of congestions and toxins in the intestine.

Constipation is one of the most common bowel problems faced by a great number of people. Constipation is a condition wherein there is a slow transit time for the waste matter to leave the body.

The transit time refers to the amount of time that toxic waste matter remains in the bowel. A long transit time will cause the toxic waste to decay, ferment and most probably be reabsorbed by the body.

And the longer the body is exposed to waste the greater the possibility of contracting a disease because the stockpiled waste is a fertile breeding ground for diseases.

Disease in the colon usually starts with a toxic bowel. Infrequent or poor bowel movements over extended periods of time can be very hazardous to the body.

Natural Way of Colon Cleansing

Herbs are used to detoxify the body from waste and toxins. Herbal medicines including dietary fibers were not fully recognized for their medical significance until recently when various studies have been conducted to understand the benefits derived from herbs.

Herbs, especially those with dietary fibers, are excellent in reducing total blood cholesterol — cutting the risk of coronary heart disease. Aside from that, dietary fibers also help in alleviating numerous bowel disorders.

There are two categories of dietary fibers — soluble and insoluble.

Soluble fibers may be dissolved in water.

Insoluble fibers do not dissolve. Both of these fibers help in regulating bowel movements.

Psyllium is a natural, water-soluble, gel-reducing fiber that is extracted from the husks of blond psyllium seeds. It is also a member of a class of soluble fibers referred to as mucilages. These mucilages are used as a thickening and stabilizing agents in most salad dressings, lotions, soap, and creams.

Likewise, psyllium is used to fight a variety of digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, diverticular disease and colitis. It is utilized by most colon cleansing programs as a means of preventing colon cancer.

The reason for this, most of the diet of people today is made up of meat products, fats, and sugar that are often low in fiber content. These foods tend to slow down intestinal transit time resulting in irregular bowel movements.

Moreover, these types of foods usually take two days to transit the intestines, often resulting in constipation. An irregular bowel movement allows for bacterial putrefaction and exposes you to carcinogenic substances within the colon.

healthy colon

Dietary fibers help in stool bulking as well as in softening stools. A stool that is larger, softer and bulkier moves through the intestine more easily and more quickly since less exertion is required.

This type of bowel movement is ideal for the intestinal wall since very little force has to be applied. Likewise, hemorrhoids and development of diverticular disease and varicose veins are prevented.

The bulking effect of dietary fibers also rids the colon of toxic substances since it acts like a sponge soaking up toxic substances attached to the walls of the intestines. This spongy action of dietary fibers is also ideal for those trying to lose some weight as it decreases hunger.

Dietary fibers are also useful in cases of diarrhea since they slow down a too rapid transfer time. It stabilizes bowel movements and often times are used to control alternating cases of diarrhea and constipation.

They also encourage the growth of friendly intestinal bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacteria that are very helpful in regulating bowel movement.

There is only one problem with these fibers. They have the tendency to slow down the stomach’s emptying of food into the small intestine and increase blood glucose instead.

On the positive side, fibers are also found to stimulate pancreatic enzymes that can be beneficial in the management of diabetes.

Please consult your doctor for advice before making any dietary changes.

A standard bowel cleanse should contain the following:
1. Water, juices, raw fruits, and vegetables
2. Probiotics to help replenish the good bacteria in the intestines
3. Psyllium husk and/or seeds or flax seeds help absorb water and expand the colon allowing for the removal of toxins and mucus.
4. Bentonite clay is edible clay that acts as a laxative by absorbing water and then forming a gel. It binds toxins and helps to carry them out of the colon.
5. Saltwater enema

probiotic

However, please remember that you should consult a medical professional for advice before starting any new health regime.

To keep the colon healthy, colon cleansing must be performed at least once a year. Colon cleansing programs scrub the intestines of decaying materials and flush it out of the body.

It also reduces the plaque that was formed if not totally eliminate them. When that is done, the colon starts absorbing all the nutrients that the body needs and it starts hosting good bacteria that helps the body to stay fit and healthy. Then the body feels energized and active.

To reduce the risk of having an unhealthy colon the following are suggestions that are proven to keep the body healthy.

Lack of fiber in the diet is the number one cause of colon difficulties. Fiber helps the colon to function properly.

By simply adding more bread and legumes to your diet can help keep your colon doing its job and allow your bowels to empty regularly.

Soy products and increased calcium intakes have also been linked to positive colon health.

Drink water. It is a popular belief that we should drink eight glasses of water daily. Professionals though will agree that that is only the basic requirement.

Water is a natural and universal cleaning agent that could be taken in large quantities without ill effects. If ever, the only side effect is a more frequent need to empty the bladder, but even that promotes health too.

The flushing out of toxins through the colon the urinary tract and the skin promotes natural health that no amount of medication could replace.

Next to that is eating foods that have high fiber content. Fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber. There are those that have less but even a little amount of food with fiber content will do the body good overtime.

Fibers are natural colon cleansers as they attract materials in the lining of the colon and flush it out with the feces.

There is really no need for high-sounding well-advertised juices, smoothies, and concoctions. Most of them are a waste of money compared to the benefit that they provide, more so if the benefit could be had trough natural means.

Maintaining a healthy colon does not take much. All it takes is refraining from overly processed foods, eating instead a variety of fruits and vegetables, drinking liters and liters of water and exercising.

Exercise is vital to colon health. Regular exercise, even simple walking, helps the colon by allowing the toxins to continue to move through the body. Sedentary lifestyles contribute to colon difficulties by forcing the GI tract into cramped and stifled space.

One of the worst things you can do to your colon is waiting to pass the stools when you feel the urge ‘to go’. By not allowing your body to function, as it needs to, the stool backs up in the colon and begins to decay.

Holding back can also lead to either constipation or diarrhea, depending on the toxins in the stool. By promptly discharging the stools as needed, the body rids itself of the toxins and thus keeps the colon and the entire GI tract healthy.

Minimizing the risks of colon problems can reduce the risks of other debilitating illnesses such as appendicitis. A healthy colon can also prevent nutritional deficiencies.

Any signs of constipation or diarrhea should be taken seriously and if they persist, should be discussed with your physician immediately.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

Is colon cleansing important?

  • Irregular bowel movements are an indication of future colon problems.
  • Colon cleansing is vital for the elimination of congestion and toxins in the intestine.

Natural Way of Colon Cleansing

  • Herbs are used to detoxify the body from waste and toxins.
  • Dietary fibers also help in alleviating numerous bowel disorders.
  • Water is a natural and universal cleaning agent that could be taken in large quantities without ill effects.

Are you familiar with some alternative treatments?

Learn more about homeopathy treatments, herbal remedies, herbal teas, bee therapy, detox program, meditation, aromatherapy, bioenergetics and biofeedback therapy, some muscular and skeletal alternative medicine, acupuncture, reflexology, and chiropractic medicine.

Homeopathy Treatments

Homeopathy is defined as an organic system of medicine that is based on three main ideas:

1. Like cures

2. Minimal dosing

3. One time remedies

Alternative medicine traditionally has the least amount of “active” ingredient possible, with the concept of using one single remedy regardless of how many symptoms are presenting. Homeopathy focuses on the least amount of treatments for better health.

Homeopathy focuses on the least amount of treatments for better health.

There are several reasons why homeopathy is the second most popular form of medicine (after conventional medicine).

The most popular reasons are:

  • It is extremely natural and safe
  • The results are permanent
  • It is effective
  • You can take most homeopathic medicines along with conventional medicine without side effects
  • It is non-addictive

Homeopathy is a precise science, which is why it sometimes takes longer to find exactly the right medicine for your illness.

Alternative medicine spends time asking questions about symptoms and the root cause of the illness in an effort to make a clear diagnosis for the problem and treat it effectively.

Try a homeopathic approach to ADD

ADD is becoming one of the most commonly issued diagnoses among young children and adolescents today.

Unfortunately, the treatment options are limited and most include the use of strong medications with terrible side effects.

A better approach might be to treat only the symptoms that are present and to treat in order to prevent the appearance of new symptoms.

Homeopathic treatment includes not only natural medicines but psychological counseling as well. The goal is to treat the patient, and not the disease.

There are many traditional physicians who will work with you to develop a homeopathic treatment plan and many holistic physicians who specialize in this type of treatment.

Herbal Remedies

Nature provides many cures and treatments for ailments of all kinds. Each region has its own native plants that are used in alternative medicine.

When buying herbs for medicinal purposes, it is suggested that you use herbs from an herbal shop.

Herb strength varies depending on the way in which they are grown, so until you are familiar with growing techniques for medicinal herbs, purchasing from a professional is recommended.

The following list provides herbal cures to common ailments:

Acne and Skin Blemishes

Wash your face and rub a clove of garlic that has been cut in half. Or, mix lavender with witch hazel at a 1:10 ratio. Tea tree oil can be substituted in place of the lavender.

Anxiety and Stress

Lavender pure essential oil soaked onto a cotton cloth, heated, and folded into a compress. Apply to head or neck.

Bruises and contusions

Boil hyssop flowers and leaves into a tincture. Filter liquid, and soak a cotton compress.  Apply to bruised area by applying pressure. The hyssop, heat and pressure combination will reduce the bruise.

Burns

Minor burns can be treated with comfrey or aloe juice.  Simply rub aloe juice into burned area.  Comfrey can be crushed into a fine powder, mixed with equal parts of melted beeswax, and added to vegetable oil. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, and then strain the mixture.

Warts

Either use a cut piece of garlic, placed directly on the wart or, for a less odorous cure, try dandelion juice applied repeatedly throughout the day.

For natural remedies for headaches, you could find it here:

Herbal Teas

An age old remedy, herbal teas are used to soothe and relieve pain and stress. Many teas are actually a tincture rather than a tea. A tincture is a thicker tea that is herb-dense and is infused instead of steeped.

The following list is a list of conditions and herbal tea remedies:

Anemia

Drink a tincture made from boiled stinging nettle leaves.

Arthritis

Drink a tincture of devil’s claw, juniper, birch, or celery seed (not the type on your spice rack).

Chemotherapy Side Effects

Drink a tincture of Siberian ginseng root.  It soothes the insides and relieves fatigue.

Colic in Babies

Add less than 10 drops of dill and fennel tincture to their bottle.

Constipation

Drink a liter of rhubarb root per day.

Cough

Drink a tea made from garlic bulbs and ribwort leaves.

Depression

Drink a tincture daily made from the ground up oat plant and St. John’s wart flowers.

Fever

Drink a hot tea made of lemon balm, yarrow, and ginger.

Gas

Drink a tea made of caraway, fennel, ginger, and peppermint.

Flu Symptoms

Drink a tincture made of Echinacea, yarrow, and catnip.

Bee Therapy

The practice of  Bee Therapy or also known as Apitherapy is the use of bee stings, bee pollen, propolis, royal jelly, and honey to treat a variety of ailments.

While there has not been extensive testing in the scientific world to validate the claims of API therapists, history proves that the treatments provide relief.

There are five honeybee products that are used in apitherapy:

1. Venom

A practitioner will aid the patient in injecting or being stung by bees in the affected area. The venom is used to provide relief for conditions such as tendonitis, Multiple Sclerosis, and degenerative bone disease.

It works because the venom is a natural anti-inflammatory which is more potent than others available to conventional medicine such as hydrocortisone.

You must get tested to be certain that you are not allergic to bee stings prior to exposing yourself to bee venom.

2. Pollen

A natural energy supplement that is also used as a seasonal allergy aid. It is also believed to slow down the development of wrinkles.

3. Raw Honey

A source of quick energy, raw honey is used for many cures. It can even be used as a salve on top of an open wound to avoid the spread of bacteria.

4. Royal Jelly

Is the milky white substance that the worker bees produce to feed the queen. While unsubstantiated, this substance is used as a beauty aid and is believed to help lower cholesterol.

5. Propolis

Is the glue used to keep the hives together and make repairs? Propolis is made from the sap of poplar and conifer trees. It is used to make lip balm and is considered to be an antioxidant.

Detox Program

Consider a whole body detoxification program.

The environment, stress and even the foods that we eat can affect every cell in the human body negatively.

Sometimes, the body just needs a break so that it can effectively remove harmful chemicals and byproducts that reduce the body’s ability to fight disease and to function at its peak.

A whole body cleanse will give you the ability to remove toxins from your intestine, organs, and even your skin.

Consider working with a holistic physician to see if a detoxification program could help you.

Try a natural caffeine detox .

If you have been promising to give up coffee or to cut down, you might need to actually remove the effects of caffeine from your system with a detoxification process that includes chamomile.

This extract helps to calm you while washing caffeine from your system.  You can use chamomile tea, or a specially developed compound designed to detoxify the body.

Meditation

Meditation is a skill that is learned.  Once you know how to do it properly, it can be used to greatly improve your quality of life and health.

The benefits of meditation are an increased level of energy, a more positive attitude, a better immune health, better sleep quality, and the slowing of the aging process.

To take advantage of the maximum benefit, meditate for at least 20 minutes per day prior to bedtime.

Follow these steps for meditating. First, sit down and get comfortable in a quiet room. Keep your back and neck straight, and clear your mind so that you are focusing on the present moment.

Then become aware of your breathing. Breathe in and out of your mouth, and pay attention to your stomach rising and falling.

If thoughts come into your head, acknowledge them and let the pass through your mind.

Remain conscious of your breathing and relax. If your thoughts carry you away, don’t get frustrated. Simply return back to focusing on your breathing.

When your time meditating is finished, become aware of your surroundings and stand up slowly.

Meditation is a wonderful way to instantly relax and reenter your being. It is the perfect supplement to any treatment, both alternative and contemporary.

This deep relaxation technique will help remove stress and anxiety from life. Reduced stress can only help healing.

Aromatherapy

Become familiar with aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a simple way to change your daily life.  Through the use of essential oils, it is possible to get access to wonderful therapeutic results.

Aromatherapy has been a popular holistic health topic for thousands of years, and many people will tell you that the promised benefits are completely accurate.

For example, consider placing a few drops of Rosemary oil on a cotton ball and dabbing it on your forehead during a headache.

Or, consider placing a drop of lavender oil on the light bulbs in your bedroom for enhanced relaxation during sleep.

Consult a pharmacist, holistic specialist or a book on essential oils to determine if one or more could help you to improve your well-being.

Visit an aromatherapist

If you are interested in working with a holistic therapist who deals with aromatherapy on a daily basis, consider an aroma massage with an aromatherapist.

The therapist will create a custom oil blend for your visit, according to how you are feeling and your emotional state at the time of the visit.

Then, they will use a soft massage technique to apply the oils to your body.  You should begin to see the benefits immediately, and you should discuss what you should do for the next day or two in order to enhance the effects of the massage and oils even more.

Bioenergetic & Biofeedback Therapy

Try bioenergetic therapy when you are feeling depressed or tired.

Bioenergetics is an alternative therapy that includes a combination of different techniques used together to help your body fight off illnesses, depression, and other conditions.

Practitioners observe the patient and form a treatment plan that works to correct things like breathing patterns and stress levels in order to begin identifying and alleviating problems that the patient is experiencing.

This therapy combines biofeedback with talk and touch therapy, acupuncture and nutritional counseling in a specific way determined by each individual patient.

Consider biofeedback therapy

If you are experiencing health problems and cannot seem to find the source, a biofeedback therapist will monitor your body and how it reacts to daily activities in order to find out where it is not performing optimally.

In this treatment, you would wear a monitor that actually records how your body is reacting while it is turned on.

If you are an athlete suffering from muscle problems, you might want to consider this treatment to determine whether you are properly resting your muscles between activities.

liver support_1

Muscular & Skeletal Alternative Medicine

There are numerous other alternative treatments for the skeletal and muscular systems of the body.

They include:

Kinesiology

Professionals test the various muscles throughout the body to determine areas that are not balanced properly, and then restore balance by using a variety of techniques.

Try Kinesiology to improve your well-being.

Kinesiology is a holistic approach to traditional biofeedback therapy, where the body is studied in order to determine the source of potential and current problems.

Through monitoring of your body, your Kinesiologist will determine a course of alternative treatments that will help you to perform to the best of your capabilities.

Rolfing

Rolfing is the use of pressure to massage the connective tissue within the body.  This allows for the body to be more flexible and be aligned properly. Rolfing will provide more energy and less anxiety.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is used to break up the knotted muscles, and to retrain the muscles. It works the ligaments, tendons, and soft tissue muscles. Massage therapy increases circulation and improves breathing.

Consider “trigger point massage” for pain relief.

If you are plagued by continuous pain and conventional pain medicines are not working to help eliminate it, consider this special type of massage.

It will help to not only ease the pain – but to eliminate its source as well.

Color Therapy

Color therapy uses color and light to treat ailments. Often considered a complementary treatment, color therapy is used in addition to other treatment.

There are seven colors that correspond to the wavelength centers of the body. Each color is matched with a region of the body.

Try changing the colors in your wardrobe to better suit your emotional needs during any particular time in your life.

For example, if you feel that you are in need of a personal change, or that you need to build your self-esteem, consider wearing more purple, as this color is known for its connection with self-healing. If you are stressed, try wearing light blue.

Green is a great color to add when you feel like you have recently made a personal accomplishment since it is a color known for renewing effects.

Magnetic Energy

The use of magnetic energy fields, as magnetic therapists believe, to manipulate cells with magnetic energy.

They also believe they can recharge cells. Magnetic energy can also increase blood flow that will then reduce scars on organs, provide migraine relief, and other reoccurring pain.

Use magnets when recovering from an injury.

Studies have shown that applying magnets to an injury will help to increase the healing rate because the magnets correct the polarity of the body cells and increase the overall health of the area where they are applied.

Healing will be faster, and pain will be less when you apply magnets.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

The craniosacral system is the membranes and fluid that envelops the brain and spinal cord. By applying gentle pressure to the head, the rhythm of the craniosacral system can be evaluated and in some ways manipulated.

This improves the flow and function of the central nervous system. This treatment is used in alternative medicine as a preventative measure.

Professional craniosacral therapy practitioners believe they can locate and release energy costs by unblocking them and realigning the neck.

Acupuncture is an age old healing technique used to stimulate nerve endings and to promote healing from within.

Overall, the goal of an acupuncturist is to restore well being and good health to the whole body. If you are currently experiencing chronic pain, consider consulting a therapist to see if your pain might be reduced with treatments.

In acupuncture, thin needles are inserted into the skin to draw nerve stimulation at pinpointed locations around the body.

Acupuncture is a Chinese medical procedure that involves Dao – the advocate for living in balance and moderation, with yin and yang – two life elements that are opposing forces that when balanced brings good health and happiness.

Acupuncture brings relief of pain, aids respiratory illnesses, and relieves headaches and ulcers, among other physical issues. It also balances the qi life force.

projoint

Reflexology

Reflexology is a technique of applying pressure to and stretching the hands and feet in order to send nerve messages to other parts of the body.

Through the careful application of reflexology, practitioners can affect the health of various organs and parts of the body.

There are many resources available if you would like to learn more about the practice of reflexology.

If you are currently experiencing back pain, chances are that the damage has already been done.

Chiropractors are specially trained to manipulate the body in a way that frees nerves and muscles to function correctly, thereby reducing pain in the body immediately.

It is important to work with a Doctor of Chiropractic, who has attended college and Chiropractic College.

Try chiropractic for more than just your back.

Even if you are experiencing an illness or injury somewhere other than in your back, there is a chance that a Chiropractor will be able to alleviate some of your symptoms.

In general, holistic chiropractors believe that most illnesses are a result of nerve impingements somewhere in the body.

By carefully manipulating the spine, these nerves can be released and symptoms or even the illness itself will fade.

Consider scheduling a consultation with a chiropractor today. The visit will generally include an examination, discussion of your symptoms and possibly an adjustment to see if you experience immediate relief.

What Are The Herbal Remedies And Supplements For Better Sleep?

herbal remedies for sleep

for download_prcvir

There might be numerous techniques offered in the market for better sleep. Nevertheless, if you are looking for natural ways for you to sleep soundly at night, you might try using your melatonin, chamomile, or lavender. Check below how can these herbal remedies will help you.

Body’s Natural Hormones

Melatonin (chemically named 5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine) is a naturally occurring hormone in humans.  The pineal gland, a tiny organ at the center of our brains, secretes melatonin at night to help our bodies maintain a sleep schedule.

The body’s internal clock that tells us when to sleep and when to wake up is the body’s circadian rhythm.  This rhythm is regulated by melatonin.

Darkness encourages the pineal gland to release melatonin, while light represses the release of melatonin.

Researchers have found that the pineal gland’s release of, and the production of, melatonin decreases as we get older.

This explains why young people typically have less sleep-related problems than older people.

Scientists have synthesized naturally occurring melatonin, and it is now available over-the-counter as a supplement.

No prescription is needed, and the supplement is available in drug and health food stores in the United States.

Melatonin is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any other government agency. Since it is naturally occurring in some foods, the U.S.

Dietary Supplement & Education Act of 1994 permits it to be available as a dietary supplement.

Melatonin is has proven to be successful when used to treat sleep problems.  Two of the sleep situations most helped by melatonin supplementation are insomnia related to jet lag and delayed sleep-phase disorders.

How much melatonin should you take?

Each individual should begin with a small amount of melatonin (about 1 mg), and increase their dosage if needed.  Melatonin comes in pill form and range most commonly from 1 mg to 3 mg.

When should you take melatonin?

For maximum effectiveness, take melatonin about a half an hour prior to bedtime.  If you regularly sleep during the nighttime, you should not take melatonin during the day because it can impact your circadian rhythm.

The opposite is true if you sleep during the day and work at night. If you want to prevent jet lag when traveling across many time zones, take a dose prior to flying and another second dose 30 minutes before going to bed.

As with any supplement, there are several issues to consider.  Although melatonin has been used for a long time without problems or side effects, it is not FDA-approved and is unregulated by any regulatory agency.

Anything you ingest that is not FDA-approved does not have a seal of approval regarding the supplement’s safety or purity, and the effectiveness of the product cannot be guaranteed.

Another concern is the lack of study and information regarding interactions with other medicines.

Consult a doctor before taking melatonin if you have diabetes, a depressive disorder, an auto-immune disease, epilepsy, lymphoproliferative disorder, leukemia, or are taking an MAO inhibitor.

This product should be used by adults only and is not for use by children, teens, or pregnant or breastfeeding women.

The Benefits of Chamomile

Matricaria camomilla, commonly called “Chamomile”, is native to southern and central Europe.

This flowering plant is now widely grown in the United States, Argentina, Australia, Egypt and northern Africa.  The leaves and flowers are dried and used as a tea, either in tea bags or in loose tea form.

For centuries, chamomile has been used as a sleep-promoting supplement. One of the benefits of using chamomile as a sleep aid is that it does not need to be taken over a long period of time to be effective.  Chamomile can be used to treat anxiety and insomnia on the spot.

There are a few ways to use chamomile.

It can be placed in a sachet under the pillow.

Try brewing a tea and drink it 30-45 minutes prior to going to sleep.

Chamomile is most effective in treating transient (or mild) insomnia.

The naturally occurring chemical in chamomile that promotes drowsiness and encourages sleep is called chrysin. Chrysin is also found in passion flower (Passiflora incarnates), which is another herbal sleep aid and anxiety reducer.

If you find your insomnia is due to congestion and/or allergies, chamomile works as an antihistamine to reduce swelling from allergies and help you sleep better.

However, chamomile can create a similar allergic reaction to that of ragweed and other plants in the same family like aster or chrysanthemum.  Avoid taking chamomile if you have these allergies.

lavender

The Soothing Properties of Lavender

Lavender originated in the western Mediterranean and Arabians are believed to have been the first to domesticate the flowering shrubbery.

The Romans later spread the growing and cultivation of the plant across Europe. The Pilgrims brought lavender to America. Lavender was also one of the first plants brought to Australia in the 1800’s.

Many herb gardens contain garden-grown or container grown lavender. Lavender is grown in somewhat alkaline soil, in a sunny location with good drainage.

Lavender’s essential oils act as a tranquilizer to calm the central nervous system, making it highly effective as an herbal remedy for insomnia.

The dried flowers and leaves can be brewed and drunk in a tea, or the plant’s essential oils can be extracted from the plant. Essential oils can be applied to the skin as a muscle relaxant, or the scent can be inhaled as used in aromatherapy.

Since the feet are known as an area of the body that quickly absorbs topically applied products, massaging lavender oil into the feet will have a calming effect.

The essential oil can be vaporized in a vaporizer or added to a warm bath and inhaled.

You can also create a sachet of the dried leaves and flowers, sprinkle with essential lavender oil, and slip it under your pillow.

Some people who apply lavender topically have experienced an allergic reaction when the oil contacts the skin.  Always conduct an allergy test on a small patch of skin to test for sensitivity prior to using a full application.

It’s also important to note that not all lavender species have the same calming effects.  Spanish lavender, for example, is used to invigorate and wake up the body.

Why You Should Care To Meditate?

why you should care to meditate

The root of the meditation process lies in its effects. That’s why there are plenty of benefits of meditation.

People practice meditation with the mind that meditation will bring peace, harmony, relief from stress and other positive changes in their lives. No doubt, it is the core true purpose of meditation.

Meditation, an exercise recommended for everyone, but especially those of us with hectic, stressful lifestyles, is defined as an engagement in contemplation, especially of a spiritual or devotional nature.

In this technological era of hustle and bustle, human beings have no time to spend on themselves, so that to explore their inner selves.

People even do not have enough time to consult their physicians when they become sick.

Many usually consider Meditation as a long and time-consuming process. One should be clear about the fact that meditation has a variety of types and methods, which one can follow easily.

Meditation has been shown to relieve stress, and promote overall good health, by simply reflecting upon our day, and finding happiness within ourselves.

This and other mind exercises help us to keep our mind fit and functioning at top performance levels.

But up until the last twenty years, meditation was something the western world new little about.  Is it necessary for our health? Or have we just come up with a new fad, to fill up the empty hours of our day?

Our mind has varying levels of operation, known as brainwaves.  As we pass through the different stages of our day, we enter various stages of brain wave activity.

The brain uses this tool as one way to allow us time to rest our busy mind, and cope with all the pieces of information we’ve received, a way to kind of “mind file” for the day.

We know that meditation started from Eastern region while Western region had adapted it from East. When one culture adapts something from other culture, it does not simply pick up the thing and implement on its people.

There is a lengthy procedure of cultural adaptation. That is why, when West adapted meditation from East, they took a great deal of time in conducting researches to investigate its effectiveness.

Moreover, when meditation moved from culture to culture, it kept on changing its forms time by time.

Every group added or subtracted methods according to their needs. So, it is not difficult for anyone to get relax by ten minutes meditation practice.

Modern alternative medicine and holistic healers believe in the power of the energy that flows through our bodies.

This energy radiates from our mind as well.  It is believed to be the chief form of transportation for our body’s nervous system to carry out communication.

Breathing techniques, music, aromas and candle therapy are all ways we utilize the opportunities to reflect on our day, allow our mind to rest and replenish itself for further use.

But are these methods keeping us mentally fit?  Yes, it does help to keep us mentally fit.

One of its great benefits, the mind’s ability to transform itself into a vehicle for higher awareness.

Meditation is a way for us to become aware of the fact that there is more to our being than just our physical activity.

We have so much more potential locked away in our mind, resources that we never tap into until we have the chance to quiet the mind, quiet our surroundings and open the door to the possibilities we don’t examine on a day to day basis.

In our meditative state, thoughts that never have the opportunity to be heard during the bustle of the day are afforded the opportunity to come forward and be heard.  Every step that we take is a step in some direction for our life.

The opportunity to set our own destiny, develop our manifestation of what we believe our life should be, is the opportunity meditation provides.  Every action we’ve ever taken started as a thought.

The thought was then brought into reality by our action on that thought. Are we able to produce new thoughts and new possibilities, in this time of quiet reflection?

It is in these small moments of creativity and higher conscious operation that our mind heals itself from the stresses of the everyday activities, and maintains a real level of healthy operation.

Our mind is like our body, we don’t have to look unhealthy to be unhealthy, and sooner or later, the illnesses show.

Benefits of Meditation

Let’s continue to learn further the benefits of meditation in detail.

Curing Lack of Sleep through Meditation

Meditation practices can be made helpful in treating lack of sleep (insomnia). It has been observed that meditation affects the root causes of insomnia, instead of eliminating the obvious symptoms. Meditation cures insomnia through relief of stress.

Mental stress during the day prevents an individual from sound sleep. The purpose of meditation is to eliminate such stresses. In this way, meditation contributes to sound and deep sleep.

A person can get several other benefits by taking proper sleep. It has been observed that interpersonal relationships of an individual can get better after healthy sleep.

Insomnia produces irritability in an individual, and he remains unable to show positive feelings for others. In this way, curing insomnia using meditation can sketch several other positives on the life of an individual.

Gaining Relaxation

Meditation plays an immense role in providing relaxation to an individual. A single meditation session can be equivalent to full night sleep. In this way, people who do not discover enough time to sleep for certain reasons can be benefited from meditation.

Likewise, meditation is helpful in lowering down blood pressure. It reduces stress, which reduces the probability of heart attacks. In this era of hustle and bustle, everyone is concentrating on achieving numerous goals in daily life, which is producing burden.

Meditation induces self-worth and confidence in individuals, and they take life’s hurdles as challenges to overcome.

It induces patience in an individual. This patience enables an individual to tolerate obstacles in occupational and personal life.

Weight Loss Through Meditation

There are several reasons for gaining weight. Some people are habitual of eating under any hectic situation.

After taking meditation session regularly, they don’t feel desire for food. Imagination techniques are also helpful if one uses these techniques along with casual meditation sessions.

These techniques involve perceiving oneself as a smart person. Scholars believe that a person has a potential to transform himself into the personality, which he thinks that he should be like that.

Once a person makes a self-image which is better than current personality, he tends to struggle for that new image consciously and unconsciously, as well.

Stress Reduction

Stress reduction is the greatest benefit that an individual can get from meditation practices. Meditation reduces the level of stress and brings peace and harmony to an individual’s life.

If a person remains in stress continuously, then he can suffer from many physiological problems such as heart attack and ulcers.

Continuous stress weakens our immune system, and any disease can affect body easily. In this way, meditation is a blessing to get rid of stress through the natural way, without using medication.

Meditation for Worst Smoking Habits

Smoking is a reaction to stress. When a person becomes incapable of tolerating stress, this stress breaks his defense mechanisms.

In this way, an individual tries to manage his stress through harmful ways and smoking is one of those ways to release tension.

If we control the underlying stress somehow, we will be able to control the resulting effects. Furthermore, long meditation sessions produce tolerance in individuals; this thing can be helpful in tolerating the desire for tobacco.

Healing Through Meditation

Empirical research shows that meditation plays an important role in the healing of different psychological and physiological disorders.

It’s quite helpful in treating psychological trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, hypertension and insomnia.

It also affects physiological processes such as increases strength, maintains blood pressure, enhances concentration, develops self-confidence and reduces panic attack.

Managing ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) through Meditation

Some empirical research shows that practicing meditation can be helpful for people suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder and attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.

Brain images have shown brain impairments in people with ADD and ADHD.

Transcendental meditation produces balance through balancing neurotransmitters in the brain. This balance reduces the symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and deficiencies in attention.

How To Execute Slow Walking Meditation?

slow walking meditation

Most of us hold the idea in their minds that, meditation is all about sitting idle at one place and concentrating on a single thought or object.

The objective of this article is to make clear the different concepts of meditation, which people are practicing around the world.

Through this, you will know another exciting practice of meditation. The purpose of meditation is to bring peace and pleasure in your life. It can bring this peace in your life even when you are walking.

Different communities are practicing meditation on a large scale, nowadays. Meditation is a great source to relieve stress and people have invented varieties of meditation techniques.

Not only that, such exercises can also help build self-confidence and self-esteem.

And most importantly, just like any other exercise, it can help you maintain your good health and keep you in great shape.

These techniques make use of meditation easier. Slow Walking Meditation is one of the examples of such easygoing techniques. Walking meditation has been practiced for a long time already.

Introduction to Slow Walking Meditation

Meditation is an art. A method. A skill. A process. It is the art of keeping in touch with yourself, of discovering your entirety and the many facets of your being. It is also a skill that must be developed. It requires discipline and a right mindset.

You cannot simply think that you will meditate and expect to achieve a result right after. This requires the tuning of one’s consciousness.

Meditation typically involves a set of procedures and guidelines to be followed. Typically, the success of the activity will depend on the adherence to the given principles and rules.

One interesting form of meditation that deviates from the old and traditional concept is walking meditation.

Walking meditation is a lot different from other forms of meditation known to many.

For one, you will not have to be physically inactive just to do it.

In fact, you need to move and be active – you need to walk! You have to actively engage your mind and your body in this activity in order to experience a holistic positive result. This brings another benefit. Since walking is a daily activity, you can actually grow by meditation daily!

Walking Meditation had gained attractiveness after Buddhist’s practices. Actually, they were dedicated people, who did not want to break their concentration even during their journey.

This activity is far different from the rest because it combines physical activity with mind conditioning in order to relieve stress immediately.

It was another problem that they had to travel far away places on foot. In this way, only a sitting posture for meditation was sometimes not convenient. Walking meditation brings a message that one can get peace everywhere.

You can meditate in different walking speeds. There is another type of walking meditation which involves walking at your speed.

We will concentrate on walking at a slow speed in our discussion. So, what we have to do when are going to start this type of meditation.

The most important thing while starting this method is to slow down your speed. The second important thing is to place your foot slowly on the ground. The technique here is to match the breaths with your walk.

For example, you will place your foot on the ground while taking breaths. The purpose of carrying out this technique is bringing compatibility among inner physiological processes with the focus on walking.

In order for this to work, you just have to find a place where you can walk like a circular path or a track. The reason why is because you want to follow a pattern in order to help your mind rest.

Of course, you will still have to breathe and walk at a slow pace. You might get distracted especially if there are other people on the track and when this happens, simply acknowledge it and continue what you are doing.

How will you prepare for Walking Meditation?

So the important thing is to find out how you will prepare for walking meditation? This is quite a simple thing to learn.

The initial thing for you to do is choose a flat ground to walk. Ups and downs during walk can produce difficulty in focusing your attention.

It can be a circular track, a sports field, or even a large garden good enough for walking on. Start by walking the path in order to get to know the route.

First, stand in a way that both of your feet are close to each other. Don’t  walk rapidly. You have to bring your concentration towards your body parts before starting walking.

Try to walk slowly. As you are walking try to mentally be aware of how your body is functioning as it moves. Do not attempt to criticize every function or movement. Just try to be aware of how your body moves or works as it walks.

Take deep breaths and try to feel different sensations of your body. As you do this, try to be conscious of your body. Feel or sense your entire body and be aware of its every parts.

This practice will help you to connect to your own self. Note your current feelings and emotions.

The purpose of such awareness is not to try to change any of the states but to make you aware of your bodily sensations and spiritual state. Awareness is the first thing to take care of if you want to bring a change in something.

Practicing Slow Walking Meditation

The next step after preparation for walking meditation is to actually practice it. The most important thing is that you will exhale and inhale your breath with every step.

There is confusion. Mostly, people do not understand whether they have to control their breathing with footsteps or, vice versa. One should remember that he has to take footsteps with his breathing cycle.

Managing your footsteps with your breathing cycle is the crux of the technique. Now, try to set the timings of your footstep with your breath.

When you are lifting your heel from the ground, this should be the time, when you are inhaling the breath.

When your foot is in the air, this should be the temporary period of breathing. And finally, when you place your foot on the ground you should be exhaling the breath again.

This may be a bit difficult at the start, and you may find it irritating. When you reach at the end of the line, turn at 180-degree and start your walk again.

Experts highly recommended that taking a short break between such meditation session and routine activities.

The reason behind this is that mind enters into a peaceful state during meditation so; one should give time to mind to face hustle and bustle of the outer world.

This is all about slow walking meditation, and in this way, you should adapt this technique in your life.

At first it might come off as silly for some people. But just like any other forms of meditation, it is not something that you should rush. You need to get comfortable with it.

Sometimes distractions may come and they usually do. It is normal, especially on the initial days that a thought comes into your head like: “This is silly” or, “I have to do the dishes”.

When they do, just try to push them gently away, and continue on with your walking. You can do this for 10 or 15 minutes, take a bit of rest, and then get on with your normal routine in life.

As you get familiar with this meditation technique, actually, a noisy and crowded place is even encouraged. Here is where the challenge lies. Concentration is important and awareness must be focused.

You must not allow the outer world to bind your mind into it – by the things that you see, hear, or whatever you perceive. You may be aware of them, but you must guard not to do anything about them. Do not cling to anything.

The guiding principle behind walking meditation is achieving a balanced awareness, equilibrium, between your inner self and the outer world surrounding you.

This meditation will invite you to feel your entire body, all the workings of the parts that make you up, being aware how each of your body parts operates. While doing this, you also have to notice your emotion and your mood. These are all done while you walk.

The outside world need not be lost in your focus. There will always be stuffs that will catch your attention as you meditate, and you are not to resist.

You are not to hang on to these, though. You have to let them pass by, observing them without doing anything at all.

This is the real sense of awareness. The ideal result of walking meditation is the person’s consciousness of the outside world while being completely aware of his inner self.

When this is achieved, many of the puzzles and complexities of life will become clearer and simpler.

By bridging the gap between what is within and what is out of yourself, you can take full control of your life and enjoy a healthier and a more satisfied lifestyle.

Aromatherapy’s Essential Guide To Get You Started

What are some essential information you should know about aromatherapy?

When you smell something nice, such as an appealing perfume, or a tasty dish being cooked in the kitchen, or fresh cut roses set in a vase full of cold water, does not the smell give you a good feeling inside?

These good feelings created by pleasing aromas are the basis for the art of aromatherapy.

People who practice aromatherapy believe that the scents that a person smells can induce the body to stimulate its ability to heal itself.

Depending on the kind of scent or combination of scents that was inhaled or absorbed through the skin, the scent activates the immune system of the body, making it more capable of fighting invading microorganisms that cause disease and boosting its strength.

The basis of aromatherapy is in its utilization of naturally gathered essential oils.

These oils are commonly extracted from plant material and additional compounds.

The flower based oils are commonly for powerfully aromatic users while the early sources of oils are principally utilized for medicinal purposes.

These oils are chiefly extracted from flowers or delicate plant tissues which are already known for their various properties.

Occasionally divided into 3 distinctive areas of uses, aromatherapy has proven an effective resolution to a lot of problems. Aerial diffusion falls in the class for environmental fragrance or disinfection.

Direct inhalation is promoted to arrest assorted respiratory problems like respiratory disinfection, congestion, tautness in the chest cavity and a lot of others.

Topical applications are chiefly for relaxing purposes like massages, baths, compresses and therapeutic skin care treatments.

Aromatherapy may have a positive effect on the limbic system through the olfactory system. It has likewise been known to have direct pharmacological effects.

There have been studies done to prove the connection between the direct effects of use between aromatherapy coupled with other scientific techniques, but to date, no absolute data has been forthcoming.

Be choosy of where you buy your essential oils. The quality varies widely from company to company.

In addition, a few companies might falsely claim that their oils are pure when they aren’t. It’s wise not to buy oils from vendors at street fairs, craft shows, or other limited-time events.

A few vendors understand novices have no recourse against them later. This isn’t to say that there are not extremely reputable sellers at these events.

However, this is a precaution for novices who aren’t able to dependably gauge quality.

Aromatherapy has become really popular nowadays. Though it’s still mostly linked to the idea of a relaxingly therapeutic massage session, newer uses are today being explored.

aromatherapy

To make the body heal and become more resistant to illness, practitioners of aromatherapy make use of essential oils.

These essential oils are extracted from aromatic plants.  They often find uses in the making of scented candles, perfume, soap and other beauty products.

Essential oils are very volatile. They evaporate easily and they are easily absorbed into the skin.

Practitioners of aromatherapy, however, never use essential oils undiluted because these oils are highly concentrated.

They can burn and irritate the skin if they come into direct contact with it.

Essential oils are always mixed with what are called carrier oils before they are used.

What now, are carrier oils?  Simply put, they are vegetable oils, extracted from certain kinds of fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

They are called carrier oils because they literally carry the essential oil when mixed and applied to the skin.

Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that each kind of essential oil and each kind of carrier oil have their own properties and characteristics.

To treat a specific ailment, a specific combination of essential oils and carrier oils need to be used.

The mixture is then massaged onto the skin or added to bathwater.  Sometimes, it is put into an air diffuser.

Below are the most commonly used essential oils and carrier oils, as well as the properties that each possesses and the ailments for which they are used.

Essential Oils

Chamomile

Chamomile can help in easing the pain so the body can relax.  It is also good for soothing the skin.

Chamomile is often used for people suffering from nervous tension, headaches caused by fatigue, and an upset stomach.  It can also be used for treating skin problems like acne and boils.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus refreshes as well as relieves congestion and pain.  So, it is used for colds, sinusitis, and other respiratory problems.  It is also applied to aching muscles and joints affected by rheumatism.

Lavender

For ailments such as rheumatism and muscle tension as well as skin problems like acne and dandruff, lavender is often used.

Lavender can help soothe and relax the body as well as enhance the circulation of the blood.  Lavender is also applied to people suffering from insomnia.

Lemon

The citrus in lemon is refreshing and can provide relief from congestion and pain.  This is why it is also used for treating headaches and migraine.

It is also good for treating stomach problems, and it is also claimed to have the ability to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the skin.

Rose

The rose is great for the skin.  It is often applied to skin that is dry, delicate or sensitive, making it softer and smoother.

The scent of the rose can also aid in relaxing the body, so it is also used for treating headaches, stress, and insomnia.

Carrier Oils

Almond

Almond oil is good for the skin because it has Vitamin D and can help moisturize dry skin.  It is a popular kind of carrier oil because the skin can easily absorb it.

Apricot

Apricot oil is a light kind of carrier oil that is rich in Vitamin A.  Practitioners of aromatherapy love to use apricot oil because it arrests the skin’s aging process and helps revitalize the skin.

Grapeseed

Grapeseed oil is the most commonly used carrier oil among practitioners of aromatherapy because it is the least expensive.  Also, because it is light, it can be used on people with oily skin without clogging the pores.

Jojoba

Jojoba oil is another type of carrier oil that is good for people with oily skin.  It has the ability to break down excess sebum, which causes pimples and dandruff.  Moreover, jojoba has Vitamin E, a kind of vitamin that helps the skin maintain its youth.

Sesame

Sesame oil is a kind of carrier oil that is known for its nutty smell, but it has great antiseptic properties.  It is effective in treating fungal infections, skin infections and light wounds.

Aromatherapy is a nice way of treating the body’s hurts and pains, if only because the oils used in aromatherapy smell great.

aromatherapy

Essential advice for aromatherapy beginners and all aromatherapy enthusiasts.

1. Buy One or Two Aromatherapy Books

Choose just one or two books to start your aromatherapy library. Select books that are general resources, which will give you some basic information and help you discover the areas in which you have the most interest.

2. Join Aromatherapy Discussion Forums

Forums are great resources for aromatherapy newbies. Read past discussions, ask questions, and learn from others. The Yahoo Group Aromatherapy for Everyone is a friendly place for beginners, and members range from novices to experts.

3. Do Some Research on the Internet

While it’s nice to have an aromatherapy book or two at your fingertips, there are some excellent resources on the internet, too. Be a critical reader, though, and consider your source.

Information offered by a manufacturer or affiliate seller may not be as trustworthy as information offered by a more objective source.

Aromatherapy websites I refer to over and over include AromaWeb and Wavelengths Natural Health Aromatherapy.

4. Choose Five or Ten Essential Oils to Start

Though you may be tempted to buy more, try to begin with just five or ten different essential oils.

Essential oils can be quite expensive, so you may want to experiment with a few at first and then invest in more if you decide to pursue aromatherapy further.

5. Make Sure to Buy 100%, Pure, Unadulterated Essential Oils

When you buy essential oils, choose a well-known and reputable manufacturer. Synthetic, fragrance and perfume oils are not essential oils – they contain man-made chemicals and have no aromatherapeutic value.

6. Buy at Least One Carrier Oil

For nearly all topical aromatherapy applications, you will need to dilute essential oils into a carrier oil.

Good all-purpose carrier oils include sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, and grapeseed oil. Buy cosmetic grade carrier oils, and use only a few drops of essential oil(s) per ounce of carrier oil.

7. Store Your Oils Properly

Essential oils should be stored only in dark glass containers. Since essential oils are volatile, keep the lids tightly closed.

Essential oils and carrier oils should be stored away from heat and light. Carrier oils will go rancid eventually, so it’s best to buy smaller quantities.

8. Learn How to Do a Patch Test

Essential oils can cause adverse reactions, due to allergy or due to sensitization over time.

A patch test helps to determine whether you might react to a particular essential oil.

Learn how to perform a skin patch test on yourself with each new oil you want to use topically.

9. Don’t Use Aromatherapy with Children or Pets

Until you are thoroughly familiar with essential oils and associated safety issues, don’t use them on children or pets, or while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Cats, in particular, may be adversely affected by essential oils. Make sure essential oils are kept out of reach of children.

10. Don’t Ingest Essential Oils

Though you will read conflicting information about taking essential oils internally, you should avoid doing this.

Some essential oils that are fairly safe to use topically may be quite toxic if taken internally.

In addition, some essential oils may interact with prescription or over the counter drugs.

Aromatherapy Accessories

Aromatherapy accessories include the whole range of storage boxes, bottles and jars, diffusers, burners, containers, dispensers and others.

Essential oils and other aromatherapy products, being so precious, not exactly in price but in face value to the user, demand special concern in the form of aromatherapy accessories.

Storage Box

It is important to get the best storage boxes for storing your essential oils. Essential oils may get contaminated if exposed to excessively extreme temperatures.

Similarly, direct sunlight is harmful to the aromatherapy products. The most common material used for the preparation of storage boxes is alder wood.

The boxes will be beautifully carved and given a natural wood finish. When shopping for storage boxes, check that it contain wooden dividers and brass clasp fittings. Also, decide the storage space before making the buying decision.

Bottles and Jars

Essential oils must be stored in dark amber or cobalt blue bottles. These are the best containers to prevent deterioration of the essential oils.

Since essential oils are contaminated when exposed to direct sunlight, clear glass bottles are a strict no-no.

Plastic bottles may be avoided, particularly when concentrated essential oils are to be stored. It is believed that the oil erodes the plastic and thus it gets deteriorated.

The market today has large options for people shopping for bottles and jars. They are available in ranges of 5 ml. to 10 ml.

Bottles with beautiful designs can be purchased. Some manufacturers also offer the option to design the bottles on demand.

Electric Diffusers

Diffusers are one of the most popular aromatherapy accessories. They are available in a wide range of electric diffusers, nebulizers, fan diffusers, clay pot diffusers and others.

They are a cleaner and more effective way of perfuming the environment. Electric diffusers can be left unattended too without the fear of it leading to fire since there is no naked flame.

Dispensers

Though dispensers and pipettes are only minor aromatherapy accessories, they are quite important. Use an ordinary dispenser and you have the danger of deteriorating your oils.

When oil is dispensed from its container, a part of it is left on the pipette. It reacts with the oxygen outside and gets contaminated.

When again the pipette is used, the contaminated oil contaminates the entire bottle of oil. So, one must purchase the dispensers too, with care.

In this way, we see that aromatherapy accessories have a large role to play in increasing the longevity of your essential oils. So, take the same care when buying the aromatherapy accessories as when you buy the oils.

As you experiment with and learn more about aromatherapy, you will become more confident using essential oils. There is so much to explore, so be safe and have fun!
